I pushed my spirit out of my body like I have done numerous times to patrol the castle groundes and look for any weak areas. I was unable to go far on this night as I lay exhausted from today's festivities with the creature curled beside me. Frustrated at myself I took lookout until a voice came down our hallway. "Excuse me, Miss, is this the chambers of Aeonian?"
"Sorry, you need to go three more doors down."
"Thank you." Shuffling footsteps came closer to my door. She paused, hesitating at her decision, finally settled on daring she knocked. "Excuse me, is this, is this the chambers of Aeonian?" I opened my eyes slowly at her incompetence, examining the dark room I felt anger creep into my veins making my skin burn. I did not know where this anger was coming from at the time but the overpowerful sensation of hatred that was coming from Braxton's being moved into mine.
"I must have fallen asleep." I looked down to find the lizard baby in my arms. I paused thought about it for a moment and freaked out by throwing the thing off my lap. Abruptly my mind came out of the fog it was covered in as my soul came back to my body and took it off autopilot, thankfully I caught it just before he hit the floor. "Okay little man it's going to take me a while for this new adjustment but until I'm use to you were going to have to wrap you up." Somehow he was still asleep and didn't know that I almost dropkicked him.
"Aeonian, is everything okay?" I hissed under my breath in my native tongue.
"If you talk any louder it won't." I struggled to wrap the blanket around Braxton but it was in vain and hearing me struggle threw the door I guess she thought she would help me.
"Aeonian I'm coming in." As soon as her smell invaded the room he sprung awake thinking it was an intruder. "Man it's dark. Aeonian! Is anybody here?" Crouching down behind the bed I held him to my chest in vain. He gave off a screech as he dug his claws into my arms.
"Watch." I peaked over the side of the bed to see an older woman scared out of her mind.
"If no one is here thin I'm leaving." Braxton let out another screech. "Who's there?" With clenched teeth I pulled us back behind the bed.
"Keep quiet!" He looked up at me with dazzling blue eyes I knew what he wanted, her blood, the one thing that satisfied our hunger. "Fine but I'm not helping."
"Hello? I know there's someone here. Show yourself!"
I watched amazed as he stalked his prey. The moon was covered tonight so the only light in the room came from the open door. It was the perfect opportunity for us hunters. He crawled under the bed towards her, making sure to stay in the shadows. Her demeanor suddenly changed, she must have caught a glimpse of his scales reflecting in the light.
"Shit!" I slunk over to the table and tipped it.
"What the fuck!" I had to stifle a laugh when I heard her, a woman of the cloth, curse.
The woman was stepping back, ready to run but little did she know she was falling right into his trap. Braxton somehow got on top of the doorframe and leaped just before she was out the door and latched his teeth into her flesh. She screamed of course, which is what finally made me get ahold of my scenes I leaped over the bed, hit her in the face and slid out the door on accident. I jumped up and looked around and of course, someone was there in the hallway curious about the noise.
"Sorry, I think I have rats." The woman looked appalled by my remark and walked off. Slamming the door closed I looked down at the mess I was now in charge of. Braxton sat atop the woman painting.
"I did not help." He tilted his head to the side. "I told you I wouldn't." I could almost fill his smirk. "Okay I helped a little, so what?" I turned around and tried to busy myself with other things in hopes of not to look at him. "The only reason why I helped you was because I don't want to cause more attention to us." I heard his claws tapping the floor as he wandered over to me. "You didn't have to attack her." Tears formed in my eyes as visions of my past moved to the surface of my memories that I wish to never remember. "You don't always have to kill to survive."
