Chapter 4.

Ryder's P.O.V.

About a week went by before I got my next visit and to be honest, I’d been expecting it sooner. The SA guy didn’t look anywhere near giving up, but then all of a sudden the visiting stopped and I was moved to solitary confinement. Probably a punishment, well, meant to be. What the dickhead didn’t realise was that I quite enjoyed my own company.

So, you could only imagine my surprise when I entered the meeting room to find myself face to face with Victoria herself. She looked up when I entered; the green eyes that I remembered clearly studied me, going over every detail. I tried to make it seem like it didn’t make me feel uneasy as I slumped down on the chair opposite, letting the guard handcuff me down. As if I was going to hit a chick.

“Good morning, Vick,” I started, leaning back in the chair and resting my wrist on the table. Her eyes widened in surprise, but only briefly before they narrowed. She didn’t speak straight away; she just huffed, rolling her eyes.  Not once did she ask how I knew who she was, so I gave her a smirk, patiently waiting for her to tell me what she was up to.

“It’s Tori,” she hissed before seemingly composing herself and giving me another sour look. Great start, Ry, well done.

“We need your help,” she whispered. I frowned, glancing around us before meeting her eyes again.

“They can hear you, regardless of your whispering,” I said, waving my free arm dismissively. Her brows furrowed before she grinned, the action lighting her entire face.

“No, they can’t. I have a killer tech geek, he’s cut the speaker for three minutes,” she informed me, giving me a cocky smirk before slumping down and twiddling her thumbs.

“Are you gonna tell me, then? Or just leave me hanging. I’ve got stuff to do, you know,” I drawled. She didn’t look amused; she just pursed her lips and shoved a piece of paper in my direction. It was some crap about government documents and her parents. Well, I thought so, until I saw my dad’s name. Keeping my composure, I slid the letter back, giving her a blank look.

“And what have you got to do, anyway? Rape inmates in the shower?” she asked; a hint of teasing there. It was more bitter than playful, but still made me smile.

“Why? Interested?” Her nose turned up in disgust before she scoffed, putting the letter back in her bag.

“Come on, we’re going,” she said calmly, picking up her coat. Something hit me in the chest and when I looked down, a bobby pin was sitting on my lap, just under my leg. Smirking, I picked it up and shot her a curious look.

“I’m dangerous, you know that, right?” she shrugged, putting her coat over her shoulders.

“You need me, I need you. Plus, I think I can handle myself,” she chided, looking at my lap expectantly. Her slender form moved closer, letting me take the opportunity. If she was breaking me out, we’d do it my way and then I’d skip off somewhere else.

“Alright,” I said with a shrug and then paused. “Do you have a gun on you?” I asked. She chewed the inside of her lip and gave a subtle nod. I smirked, pushing the chair back and getting to my feet. Within seconds I had my arm secured around her neck, holding her against me and her gun in my hand. She yelped with surprise and at first attempted a struggle, obviously not expecting what I had planned.

“Don’t say anything. I know what I’m doing,” I whispered, getting a whiff of her hair. Citrus, I noted, before pushing through the door and tugging her along with me.

It didn’t really shock me that there were about ten security guards outside, all with their guns aimed in our direction. To her credit, Tori stayed pretty calm throughout the whole thing, keeping her hands wrapped tight on my forearm.

“Take a step closer and I’ll kill her,” I said, waving the gun next to her head. The safety was on, but they didn’t need to know that. Tori squirmed against me when one of the idiots stepped forward, attempting to be all heroic.

“Don’t be a prat, step back,” I droned, manoeuvring us towards the front door. It wasn’t the front door; it was more of a door to the lobby, which would be even harder to get through. I definitely didn’t think it through.

“You’re not going to be able to get out,” Victoria said, still clutching my arm. I rolled my eyes, pushing my back through the doors.

“You’re gonna help me,” I informed her, letting her go so she could cover my back. She looked a bit shell shocked for a moment before pulling a gun from her waistband. She shot me a sour look before aiming her pistol at the security camera. I took care of the other two, setting off some alarms.

It took the guards about a total of twenty seconds to raid the lobby and surround the other rooms, which was just enough time to kick open the air vents and shove Tori through. She scolded me when I pushed her backside, but carried on crawling when I followed.

The vents were difficult to work out and the alarms were beginning to give me a headache. When we’d been crawling for a good few minutes, Tori stopped, turning to face me.

“Any ideas?” she asked. I shrugged, glancing around us.

“We need to find a room that isn’t going to be crawling with security,” I whispered back.

“You don’t say?” I ignored her, moving along quietly until I found a panel that contained holes, allowing us to see down and into the rooms.

We managed to find a room that had one security man and three security cameras. Using the camera’s blind spots was pretty much impossible, considering that we didn’t have the schematics to the building, but we nearly got there. Tori was probably already on the hit list and I made it years ago so we had nothing to worry about when we tried to find the door out.

Prison was exactly the same as in the films. Dark, grey and slippery when you’re running around corners. Especially in the plimsolls that you were provided with.

“Over there,” she hollered, drawing my attention to a door on the far end, a fire exit man printed clearly just above the handle.

Bursting through, we kept running until we passed the corner into an alleyway. With Tori up front, it would be pretty easy to break away from her and go my own way. My only problem would be the tag around my ankle, sending my location out to the prison.

“Don’t even think about it,” she warned, stopping to face me. She was panting a bit from all the running, but other than that and a wild head of hair, you wouldn’t have guessed what just happened. I leaned over, letting out a deep breath before turning on my heels.

“It’s been fun, sweetheart, but I’ll see ya around,” I called.

She moved so quickly that I was surprised she didn’t get whiplash. Within seconds, I was handcuffed to the crafty girl and following her like a dog with my tail in between my legs.

“As soon as this is off, I’m out.” She ignored me, getting her phone out. I continued to whine and complain. Not to mention pulling her in the wrong direction until she dug her heels in. For a girl, she was pretty strong.

“Alexis, bring the car around. I’ve got him,” she chided, shooting me a sly smile. I retorted with a roll of the eyes, leaning on the wall beside her, waiting for this ‘Alexis’ chap.
