Chapter 6

Ryders P.O.V.

I’d spent the majority of the journey making threats, teasing Tori and winding Alexis up. It was safe to say that screaming out and pretending I needed help wasn’t my best option, considering that my only help would’ve gotten me back with the police. Tori had thought it through, so had her annoying, gawky little friend. Okay, he was far from gawky, I’d probably have to take a moment of consideration before trying to knock seven bells outta the guy, but he still wasn’t what I’d see as an agent. More of a dim body builder.

“What type of name is Alexis, anyway, were you born a girl?” I asked. Alexis grumbled something under his breath and tugged me a bit faster. Tori wasn’t doing a very good job of hiding her slight smile, which originally I thought was my fault. Turns out, her getaway car was on the other side of the road and it was only a matter of seconds before they made a clean getaway. Convict with them and all. I had to give it to them, they weren’t bad at the job.

“In the back,” Tori ordered, pushing me forwards. I stood my ground, shaking my head.

“I don’t think so, sweetheart. I’ve kept my trap shut all the way around, I am not playing backseat again,” I said, turning my nose up as I looked down at my shoes. They were going to have to go. Tori huffed, raising her eyebrows at me in an un-amused fashion. I returned the look with a smirk and ducked into the front of the car when she clicked the keys. Alexis let out a grunt, but got into the back, anyway.

The car was even worse than the last one. A confined clio wasn’t exactly my desired way of travel, but the clothes in the glove compartment, along with the weapon – which was confiscated from me within seconds – made the trip a lot easier. I stripped off the top and chucked the wig in the back, ignoring the glare I got from Alexis, but paying special attention to the quick, not to mention interested, sideways glance I got from the girl in the front.

“Couldn’t you have waited?” she asked, starting the car up with more force than necessary. I shrugged, doing up the fly on my jeans.

“Thought you might have wanted a show.” She ignored me again, making nothing but a tutting sound as she pushed the car into drive and took off down the road.   “

You know, the hostile quality isn’t a good one in agents,” I taunted, leaning back in the seat. The feel of freedom was immense and so was the feeling of the denim against my legs, rather than the stupid orange jumpsuits that we were originally accustomed to.

“Remind me why we broke him out?” Alexis groaned from the backseat and I grinned, glancing at him in the rearview mirror.

“Because you need me.” He said nothing, rolling his eyes and the car suddenly lurched forward, Tori pulling it to a stop.

“Let’s get something straight, shall we, Pierce? I do not need you, I’d prefer to have you with us because you have something to do with the case. I do not want you with us, nor do I need you, you’re temporary,” she hissed. I grinned.

“Onto nickname territory now, are we?” She just sighed, clearly exasperated as she started the car again and turned the radio down, blocking my voice. Not that I had anything else to say. As soon as I had a chance, I was out of there.

Tori pulled into a small estate from a side road. It was somewhere that I’d expected the SA would place them, which only put me on edge. In prison, I could be the cocky asshole because they couldn’t touch me. Outside, they’d use the same techniques that they’d used before I’d gone inside, which was something I really didn’t fancy reliving.
