Kageyama Mao was her brothers rock, and he was hers.
You can image the difficulty of the decisions the twins were faced with when they came to the realization only one of them was accepted into Shiratorizawa Academy.
"Nii-chan, I don't think I can survive highschool without you," she says softly as they sit at the table, staring at their acceptance and denial letters.
"Mao, this is our dream school. I don't want to be without you either, but you need to do this for us," he scolds her reluctance to go to Shiratorizawa.
"Tobio I have nothing there without you-"
"You know that's not true. You're the smartest person I know, and Shiratorizawa has the best and only high school pre med program. You may not be able to play volleyball after everything that's happened but you can be a manager. You'll need a club anyways," he reminds her. Tobio is worried, even when he was there right next to her he didn't see how much she was hurting. He didn't see how the demons of her own mind had corrupted her thoughts, and he almost lost her.
She has spent her entire life by his side, seeming to ignore any negative comments about her, walking quietly next to her terrifying older twin.
She needs friends. Tobio isn't blind. He knows that, and not just because her therapist told them. She needs more people in her life to help her see who she really is, and that she's worth it.
"You are more capable than you realize," he reminds her, more gently this time.
