Skyler's Point of View

"I hate you!" I yelled to him as he ran away laughing. "Oh come on we both know you love me!" He exclaimed back as he waved my phone in his fingertips. "You are such a tease." I said as I chased after him.

I didn't actually love him, yet I wasn't able to deny the fact that I was drawn to him. I didn't want to catch feelings for him because I was scared that it could ruin our friendship, but being with him made me happy.

If only I knew it wouldn't last.

Jake and I met in 6th grade, we hung out almost all the time. He made me laugh, smile, and was a great friend I could trust. His cringy jokes made my day, his smile and laugh made me happy, he was there for me when no one else was. He was the only guy friend I got along with.

8th grade graduation came by real quick. It was the day before summer break, and we had promised each other to stay in touch. For we weren't sure if we were going to the same high school. Hey, at least my best friend Brittany and I were going to the same high school!

Over break we had texted each other almost everyday. On the weekends we would sometimes go to the mall, park, or anywhere to hang out, but one day I noticed a change in his personality, something I caught a glimpse of before he completely hid it from me. Thinking it was no big deal I ignored it.

Brittany started acting weird too over the summer because she barely wanted to hang out anymore and would always say she was busy. I was really bored for the last few weeks of summer break left so I decided to throw a party.

All of my other friends had gone ghost mode on me and said they couldn't come to the party due to having other plans. So the only people who ended up coming was Jake, Brittany, and a couple of their friends I hadn't met before.

Before the party ended Jake had offered to drop Brittany off home since her parents were at work. It was a nice gesture, but I felt something was off. Before they left I asked when was the next time we could hang out again.

"Erm sorry got plans, maybe when school starts." Replied Jake opening the front door for Brittany. "Yeah sorry girl I would, but my parents aren't allowing me to go out anymore because they want me focused before school starts." Replied Brittany heading outside. "Oh! It's ok guys! I understand, see you guys some other time then." I said with a smile, waving goodbye to them as they headed to Jakes car. I was a bit upset since I wanted to hang out with them more before freshman year.

Jake and Brittany kept their word for I haven't talked to them since the party... I guess they really are busy.
