I drove to work at h&m, it was a really good job for me. I got good benefits and since it was at the mall, I didn't have to leave for lunch. My other job was at Barnes & Noble which was a few blocks away from the mall so it wasn't too bad of a commute.

I hated working 2 jobs, but I had to save up for college. My step dad had no intention of helping me out, so I had to raise money all on my own. I had been applying for scholarships like crazy.

"Excuse me, can you point me to the fitting rooms?" Someone inquired.

"Yeah, they're just over there-" I turned around. "Mia!!!!"

"Livvy!!" Mia gave me a hug.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"I just finished my spring semester! I'm here for the weekend before I go stay with my family for the summer. I would stay here, but they want to go on vacation to London, so it won't be too bad." she smiled.

Mia was my best friend all through middle and high school. She moved at the end of junior year to Ohio from where we lived in Massachusetts. After graduation, she left for California for college.

"So what are you gonna do this weekend?" I asked, re-folding a pile of shirts for the third time that day.

"I was hoping you wanted to hang out!" She explained.

"For sure!" I replied. "How about we stay in and rent a movie or something?"

"Oh my hell, Liv. I didn't come all this way to see you just so we could do what we did every weekend of high school."

She gave me a funny look. "What's that supposed to mean?" I chuckled. Something was different about Mia. I guess I hadn't seen her in almost 3 years, but still. I missed her.

"Well, my roommates boyfriends best friend goes to Columbia, and there's this huu-uge party tonight. Like a end of school thing. Anyways, I really don't want to show up alone. So do you wanna go?"

"Mia, I don't know.." I say, walking back to the dressing rooms.

"Well, you don't have a choice." she laughs. "You have to come!"

"I'd have to get work off.." I complain.

Mia then grabbed my phone and called my boss at Barnes & Noble.

She did an amazing impression of me.

"You have work off tonight and tomorrow." she handed me my phone back, smiling.

"I work here too. I have a double shift tomorrow." I really did not want to go out to New York tonight.

Mia then tapped on Eric's shoulder. He was one of my co-workers. (AND he was really attractive.)

"Hey, would you mind coving Liv's double tomorrow? Please?" she batted her eyelashes and flipped her long, straight, brown hair.

Eric blushed. "Of course." he winked.

"See?" Mia exclaimed. "All taken care of! When do you get off today?"

"In like 45 minutes." I answered.

"Perfect!"

For the next 45 minutes, Mia was running around the store trying to find the 'perfect dresses' for us tonight. As soon as my shift was over, she had me try on all the dresses she picked out.

She decided on a high waisted beige skirt with a white bandeau on top paired with nude heels and a necklace. For me she picked a short silver dress that was covered in sparkles. The back was open all the way down my back and it was a cap sleeve. She picked out some red heels for me and we proceeded to checkout.

"This is a little showy for me.." I was hesitant.

"Come on, you'll look amazing!" she handed the cashier her card and we were on our merry way.

We decided to take the train to New York instead of driving. I couldn't help but to check my phone constantly. I hadn't told my mom where I was going. They needed me at home.

"Will you calm down?" Mia shouted. "Your mom isn't going to give a shit! You're an adult! She's not in charge of you." She took my phone and turned it off. "It's for the better." she smiled and put the phone in her purse.

I sighed. We still had another hour before we would be in the city.
