Ch. 2: Where You Are

It was exactly 3:01am by the time my dad and I were driving down the streets of Orlando. It was quite dark, and very quiet. To be honest, I've never really been out driving past 2am before. It was new experience for me. It's also been a while since I've been in a car. Being back on Earth was certainly a strange experience for me. After spending several weeks mingling with talking animals, princes, princesses, and evil villains with a vendetta against me, it was almost nice being back home, where I didn't have to worry for my life constantly.

"Where are we going?" I asked Dad.

He waited until we turned a corner onto a dirt road when he answered. "You know, I'm not exactly sure to be honest."

That was comforting.

"What do you mean you're not exactly sure?"

He sighed. "Well, the entranceway I usually take in order to get to the World of Disney is closed right now. It opens and closes on various parts of the week. The only other entryway I know of is down this road, and to be honest I'm not really sure it exists."

"Why wouldn't you be sure? You haven't used it before?"

Dad shook his head. "No. To be honest it's only a rumor that I heard about. A small tunnel or cave at the foot of a small mountain. I've never used it before, and no one I know have used it either. And unfortunately, I don't have one of those special transporter devices to just zap instantly there."

I remembered what my dad was talking about. When I was first transported to the World of Disney by Jasmine. She had some sort of handheld device shaped like Mickey Mouse ears that she had zapped me with. I guess that's the normal mode of transportation to get there.

Sure enough, after a few more minutes of driving through the darkness, we came upon an end of to the road. Off in the distance you could sort of make out a disheveled hill, the moon lighting up the night ever so slightly.

Dad took out a flashlight. "We walk from here."

Despite the fact that it didn't look that far away, it was still about a 15-minute walk. It was silent all around us, not even crickets chirped in the darkness. It kind of had an eerie feeling about it, to be honest.

When we finally made it to the hill, I could see that it was a lot smaller then I thought it would be. A small hole that was barely big enough to maybe fit a fox or badger sat near the bottom.

"How are we supposed to fit in there?" I asked as I got on my knees, and shone the flashlight into the hole, brightening up its interior, but still not seeing anything. "We're way too big."

"I guess we're gonna' have to dig our way in." Dad mused.

"With what?"

He held up his hands. "You have hands, don't you?"

Even with our natural digging tools, we still haven't gotten much of anywhere. We had widened the hole a little bit, but nothing substantial.

Dad stood up, his knees and hands covered in dirt and grass. He also had some on his face. I guess I didn't look much better.

He huffed. "It's been nearly an hour since you've been back. A week has already passed on the World of Disney. We're running out of time. We're going to have to take our chances."
