He had never felt this anxious in his life.
His boyfriend of 4 years was supposed to have been back to their apartment by now, having just gone to run a couple of errands and pick up some groceries. He wasn't supposed to have been gone for over 6 hours!
Izuku paced in a circle in the kitchen, occasionally stopping and opening a cabinet to look for food, or to check his phone for a text.
As the minutes progressed onward, Izuku grew more and more nervous. He was close to hyperventilating when he finally got a text from his ever-quiet boyfriend.
Shouto <3
-I'm so sorry!! I completely lost track of time!! Could you meet me at the Hamarikyu gardens?? I think I can make it up to you!! <3 sent at 11:34 p.m by Shouto <3
The uncharacteristic reply from the usually stoic man sent chills down Izuku's spine as his over active brain began to imagine all the horrible reasons he could've phrased the text like that.
Maybe he was kidnapped by villains, and was being forced to get Izuku so that they could slaughter the both of them, or perhaps Shouto had decided Izuku's favorite park would be a good place for him to finally end their relationship, or-
His thoughts were cut off by the buzzing of his phone as he rushed out into the pleasant air of late spring. It was a text from Shouto.
Shouto <3
-Stop overthinking everything. I promise all is well!! sent at 11:38 p.m by Shouto <3
The reply only set his nerves off more, causing him to rush out of the apartment after just barely grabbing his shoes. As he ran down the stairs, hopping and pulling on his shoes at the same time, he thought about how ridiculous this whole situation was.
First, there was Shouto not coming home at all, when he was supposed to come back at least 3 hours ago, and then there was the fact that he had just sent a ~vaguely ominous~ text.
Oh god.
Was this how Shouto had felt in Hosu City??
He paused for a moment, letting that thought sweep over him. The panic Shouto must've felt.
It was probably more intense than anything Izuku could feel at the moment.
His hopping down the many flights of stairs came to an end, and both of his shoes were on. The wrong feet. Whatever. His panic outweighed his discomfort any day.
Almost using his quirk, he rushed to their car, nearly ripping open the door and throwing himself in the driver's seat.
The park Shouto had asked to meet at was about a 25 minuted drive away, but at the speed Izuku was going, it turned into 15 minutes.
He wondered how Iida would feel about that.
Letting the 15 minute drive go by in silence, only broken occasionally by his fractured and labored breathing.
Pulling into the parking lot, he remembered the spot they had chosen to always meet at whenever they got separated.
The park was a small one, but it had plenty of small private alcoves couples could hide in, or have nice picnics at.
It was a favorite of Izuku's.
As that thought passed through his mind, the panic intensified ten-fold, his overworked brain kicking into overdrive at the mere idea that maybe villains had found out about their spot.
He started using his quirk just then, forcing his legs to take the 1% power he let flow through them.
As he ran nearer and nearer, he started noticing... nothing.
There was nothing at all more remarkable about the park than usual.
It was still the beautiful lakeside park it had been when they were in highschool.
He spotted a splotch of half-red half-white hair and almost started sobbing in relief.
And then he realized.
He couldn't slow down.
"WATCH OUT" He shrieked as he slammed into the back of the bench Shouto was sitting peacefully on, knocking both the bench and the startled boy into the ground as Izuku went flying from the impact.
"Oh my god! Izuku, are you alright? You're like, ten minutes early!"
The dazed boy sat up, his blurred vision clearing to make room for an overly-concerned face mere inches from his. Shouto's strong arms held onto Izuku's, keeping him upright.
"Ugmnhhmnn" Was the only noise he produced, causing the face across from his contort with worry.
"Here, um... Let me lay you down on the bench, alright? You seem to be just dazed, so this should clear in a couple of minutes." Shouto stated as he lifted Izuku's near-limp body into his own muscled arms.
Gently placing Izuku's head against the arm of the wooden bench they were sat at, Shouto had a thought.
Maybe tonight wasn't the best night.
He had made his boyfriend worry, that much was obvious.
He had figured that the staying out late would make him worry a bit, sure, but this much of a reaction, just from a slightly vague text...?
Well it just seemed irrational.
Shouto thumbed the small box in his pocket, making sure to keep it closed and out of sight.
He had been saving for the ring for a couple of months.
It was expensive, and so very beautiful. He had made sure the emerald matched with the green of Izuku's eyes.
It truly was the most beautiful color.
A/N - So. Weird, vague ending. Yes, I know. I actually wasn't sure where I was even going with this story. I almost ended it with Midoriya running to go save Todoroki, but figured... nah, let's make this more interesting. And then leave the ending open and unfinished.
Yes.
That is a good idea.
Whatever. I actually had a really fun time writing this one, but it got super late, and I was running out of inspiration for the next part. Who knows. Maybe I'll make some of these one-shots into books. Some of the later ones are really worthy of it, tbh.
Yes, some longer ones are coming! The actual reason the first few were so long was because I had time to write them. I have near 0 time, and near 0 inspiration, so it basically means some shorter ones till I get some free time for once.
My apologies!
I'm glad my 2 fans are following along with this story. I love and appreciate y'all. <3
