I wake up to the smell of my mom's cooking. Which is weird because
1. My mom is never home
2. My mom never cooks
I quickly get out of my pjs and throw some jeans and my "Dobby is a free elf" shirt.
I walk down the stairs almost tripping over my brother's toy car. I kick his toy into the wall. I hear it slam against the wall but don't turn back.
"Not my problem." I think while smiling deviously.
I reach the kitchen and see my mom making chocolate milkshakes and pancakes.
My mom was some sort of Nurse. She always worked late and got home while Ben and I were sleeping.
The reason I say my mom is some sort of Nurse is because I hardly know anything about my mom.
And she hardly knows anything about me. We just don't have those mother/daughters talks. We don't even argue or fight because she's hardly around. Point is we don't talk. She's a stranger to me.
"Uh hi mom, what are you doing here?"
"I live here" she replied chuckling
"Are you sure about that?" I think
"Actually I have a day off and decided to spend it with you guys." she continued saying.
"Oh."
"Aren't you excited ?" she frowned
"Uh sure but I kinda have school today..."
" I know that, but I thought you, Ben and I go to The Peter Panda's Pizza Place." she said while smiling slightly.
"It's Peter Piper's Pizza, and I'm 16. I'm too old for that." I stated.
At the sound of pizza my brother came crashing down the stairs. "I WANNA GO. PLEASE MOM CAN WE?? ME WANT PIZZA." He said all in one big breath.
"Well only if Mia goes." my mom replied.
"I don't want too." I stated.
Ben turned and looked at me furiously. For a 6 year old he had a lot of angry in him.
"Mia...." My mom looked at me intently. Her green eyes looked into my green eyes.
My mom and I looked very similar. We both had brown, long wavy, hair, emerald colored green eyes, and little freckles above our nose and just below our eyes. She was really pretty for her age and I hoped I looked as good as she does when I'm that age.
"Mia." My mom said again. "We haven't all been together in a long time. Your father said he would meet us there once he got out of work."
"I wish I could but I um have a test in geometry." I lied
"Oh." She frowned.
"I'm really sorry mom. But I think you three should still go. Don't let me ruin your day off."
Ben who was quiet throughout the whole conversation stopped looking angry and started smiling widely.
"Ok." My mom replied. "It'll be just us three." As she said it I couldn't help noticing how disappointed she looked.
I felt bad for blowing off my family like that and lying to them but I had something to do at school.
Someone I had to confront. Someone I needed to tell to back the fuck off.
We all ate our pancakes in silence.
Except Ben who kept gobbling them down so fast he started choking a little.
