I really didn't want to go out that night. The whole day I had walked through the streets of New York City and my feet hurt like crazy. But after all I was here to visit my best friend David, whom I hadn't seen in almost six months.

So, when he asked me to go out with him and his friends from university, who was I to say no. I took a shower, squeezed me in black tights and a black dress, put some make-up on, brushed my long blonde hair and we were gone.

We met with his friends in one of these popular rooftop bars in Manhattan. When we entered it was already super crowded, but we managed to find them quite easily and sat down. "What do you want to drink guys", Alex asked. I met him and his girlfriend the other night. The other members of the group I didn't know. "A whiskey ginger would be lovely, thank you", I responded.

The evening went on and it was quite nice. David's friends were really funny and after I was invited to three drinks in a row, I stood up and said: "Next round is on me guys."

When I made my way through the crowd to the bar, I already felt a little tipsy. Maybe I should let this round of drinks pass and just get some for the others. The bartenders were busy, and it took me several minutes to get their attention.

Finally I placed my order and took a look around. There were a lot of handsome guys, but nobody really caught my eye. I noticed that some girls in the room were looking in my direction and started whispering. What are they starring at, I wondered. Did I smudge my lipstick or something?

The drinks arrived. Ah, I didn't think that through - six drinks, only two hands and on top of everything, I'm the clumsiest person in the whole wide world. But if I would just leave a few glasses here on their own, I was afraid that they wouldn't be there when I would return.

Normally, I would never speak out of the blue to a stranger, but the alcohol in my blood gave me a little more courage than usual. "Excuse me?", I asked the guy next to me and tipped on his shoulder. He turned around, gave me a smile and said: "Can I help you?"

Wow, nice smile, I thought. He looked kinda familiar, but I had no idea why. "Yes, that would be lovely. I have to bring those drinks to my friends, but I can't carry six glasses at once. Could you have an eye on these three till I get back to get them?" He looked kinda confused but then gave me once again a big smile and nodded.

With the first three drinks I made my way back to the table. The whole time I was wondering, why this guy seemed so damn familiar. When I came back to the bar he was chatting to the guy next to him.

So I took a moment to take a good look at him. He wore skinny black jeans, Chelsea boots and a slim white button up shirt. He was quite tall, I guessed about 6'3 and hell, these were some fine back-muscles.

"There I am. Thank you again for guarding my drinks. I didn't even introduce myself before. Sorry about that. I'm Lilly." The words came out of my mouth like a waterfall. The handsome stranger was making me quite nervous.

Now I noticed his gentle hazel eyes and his perfect lips. He had a little scar on his right cheek. Boy, this guy was really beautiful. "No problem at all. Nice to meet you Lilly. I'm Shawn. And that's my friend Andrew" He reached out and shook my hand. He had a little bird tattooed on his right hand. How unusual, I thought to myself.

"You New Yorker are so friendly and helpful. I could really get used to that", I said and he laughed. "Actually, I'm from Toronto. But I heard that Canadians are supposed to be even nicer", he said and gave me another sneeky smile.

"We're you from? You aren't American neither, am I right?" "Yes, I'm actually from Austria. I'm visiting my best friend for two weeks. He just moved here to study at the NYU. And I always wanted to come to New York City - so here I am. What brings you to the Big Apple?"

Oh Gosh Lilly, take a deep breath. Way too much information. Shawn's gentle eyes were fixed on me and he kept smiling. "Well, I'm here for some business stuff. Nothing special. How do you like your trip so far?" His voice was very soft and sonorous. And although the music and the voices around us were quite loud, it was all I could hear. And these beautiful eyes. I really could loose myself in them. But why the hell looked he so damn familiar.

"Lilly?" The sound of his words interrupted my thoughts. "Oh sorry. I got lost in my own thoughts. Sometimes that happens. What did you just say?" I could feel a blush of shame crept up my face. "Haha no problem", Shawn laughed. "I just asked if you're enjoying your trip so far?"

"Oh yes very much. Most of the time I'm on my own. My friend has a crazy schedule at the moment, so I only get to see him in the evenings. Most of the times I'm just wandering around the city and taking it all in. I think it's an incredible place. So full of art, music and passion.

And tomorrow night my friend and I will go to a Karaoke Bar in Brooklyn. Because I want to cross something from my bucket list: to sing karaoke in New York City. I'm super scared to do it, because I have the feeling that in this city everybody is crazy talented." Did I mention that I tend to speak non-stop whenever I'm nervous? Well, obviously I was really nervous, because I didn't even give him a chance to respond anything before I continued my monologue.

"No, I'm serious, I turn around on the street and there is a guitar-genius on one side of the road and an angelic voice just two blocks down. But I'm willing to take the risk of making an absolute idiot of myself. And if the audience starts to throw stuff up on stage, I'll will be gone like that", I said and snapped with my fingers.

Shawn laughed out loud and in that moment David appeared behind us. "Hon, are you making the ingredients for the last two drinks by yourself or what takes you so long?"

The minute he finished the sentence, he looked at Shawn. I knew this look on his face. He was scanning him head to toe. "I see. Nice choice. Go and get him", David whispered in my ear, gave me clap on my ass and with the three remaining drinks in his hands he was gone.

"You're boyfriend?" Shawn asked and for the first time he seemed a little less confident. "Hell no!" I almost yelled and shook my head. "That was my best friend." Was it just my wishful thinking or did Shawn look a little bit relieved about that?

"That might sound a little bit cheesy, but I just have to tell you: you have the most gorgeous eyes I've ever seen", Shawn said out of the blue and looked me deep in the eyes. I smiled and again I could feel the blood streaming in my cheeks. My green eyes were actually one of the few things I really liked about my looks. Therefore, I was willing to believe him - at least a little bit .

And than it hit me. I knew where I recognized him from - from the posters in my sister's bedroom. That's why almost every female in the room was starring in my direction earlier. They were starring at the guy next to me - Shawn Mendes.
