On our way down Jon stopped by Shawn and the girls and whispered something in his ear. He simply nodded, looked at me and gave me a little smile. I didn't return it and just walked past him.
I knew it wasn't really nice to ignore him like that. But the fact that he told me to keep my distance in public and with these women it didn't seem to be a problem at all, made me a little bit angry. Maybe it was also because of the alcohol in my blood.
Jon and I made our way down and started to dance. And what can I say, he also was quite the pro at club dancing.
Soon I was totally lost in the music and had loose Jon in the crowd, when I suddenly felt two hands around my hips. Did Shawn come down to dance with me after all?
With a smile I turned around, but the smile disappeared instantly when I found myself opposite an unknown man. I wanted to back away but the stranger drew me closer to him.
"Babe, the way you're moving is so damn hot. You have no idea what I want to do with that body of yours", he spoke near my ear. I could smell the strong scent of alcohol on his breath.
I tried to push him away, but he was stronger and didn't let go of me. His hands were moving down to my ass. I felt panic rise inside me. I had been in a similar situation a few years ago. Bad memories started to come back in my head.
In that moment someone pushed the stranger away and placed himself in front of me. First, I thought it was Shawn, but it turned out to be Jon.
But it didn't matter. I was just so relieved to have the stranger's hands off me.
The music was so loud that I couldn't hear what the two guys were saying, but suddenly one of the doorman appeared and took the stranger with him. Jon grabbed my hand and led me back upstairs to the others.
As soon as we got back to the VIP area, I saw Shawn and Brian.
Shawn had clenched his fists and was breathing heavily, while Brian had his hands on his shoulders and was talking to him strongly. It almost seemed like he tried to persuade him.
Shawn's jawn was also clenched heavily together, his cheeks were bright red. He looked like he was ready to punch someone real hard.
As soon as he saw me his face eased a little bit. He came to me and without any hesitation pulled me in for a tight hug.
"Are you ok?" I nodded. I expected him to pull back again, but he didn't let go of me.
"I want to go home. Is that ok for you?" I could hear the tension in his voice. He still seemed quite mad.
"Shawn, I'm ok. We don't have to go because of what just happened. It's no big deal", I tried to calm him down.
I lied. It was a big deal. But he seemed so upset that I didn't want to bother him with my rising anxiety and the pictures of the past. This wasn't the time and place to tell him about this chapter in my life.
"I want to go", he insisted. Then he turned to Brian and Jon, said a few words and gave Jon a hug.
"Ok, our driver is already waiting downstairs. Go ahead and I'll be there in a minute."
I just nodded and said goodbye to the others. When I hugged Jon goodbye I whispered in his ear "Thank you so much" but he just waved off and gave me a big smile.
As soon as Shawn got inside the waiting car, we drove off. The first minutes no one said a word.
"Are you ok? I'm sorry if you're upset", I said carefully.
He turned his face and I could see sadness in his eyes. "Why are you apologising?"
I shrugged. "I...I don't know. I'm not really sure what's going on in your mind and you seem so upset. If you think I was flirting with this random dude, you're totally wrong."
Shawn immediately grabbed my hand and squeezed it tide. "Oh my God Lilly, I know that. I saw everything from the gallery. How this asshole just grabbed you and didn't let go."
Only at the thought of it Shawn clenched his fist again and hold his breathe for a second before he continued.
"I immediately wanted to run down, punch him in his dumb face and tell him to stay the hell away from my girl. But Brian hold me back and than Jon realized what was happening, thank God." He sighed.
"But I'm glad that Brian held you back. That would just caused a scene and in a few minutes there would have been videos of this all over the internet. That would not have been worth it."
Shawn shook his head. "And that's exactly wrong. In that moment I didn't care about all of that. You're safety would definitely been worth it - always will. And it just pisses me off that I have to think about something like a bad headline or a scandal in those situations. It should be normal for me to protect my girl - no matter who's watching."
I couldn't help but smile. "Your girl?" I whispered.
Finally a smile appeared on Shawn's face. "Yeah, my girl. I hated it to keep my distance from you, not to be able to touch or kiss you. And to have to watch you with Jon the whole night - eventhough he's one of my best buddies."
Now I had to laugh. "Well, I had to watch these girl gushing over my man, while I had to keep my distance as well. That wasn't a party neither."
"Your man, eh? So, you were jealous?" Shawn grinned. "Let's just say I'm really glad to have you all for myself for the rest of the night."

The next day we spent in Pickering with Aaliyah. They both showed me around town. I got to see Shawn's old school, his favourite coffee place and where he hang out with his friends after school.
The memories of last night, and what they brought back, were still stuck in my head. But I managed to shovel them aside for most of the time.
A few times I caught Shawn watching me from the side. He had asked me last night several times if I was ok.
Apparently he had the feeling that I was still struggling with something but couldn't make out what it was exactly.
And he was right. But I still wasn't ready to talk to him about it. Nevertheless it touched me how well he know me already.
After a few hours we drove back to the Mendes house for dinner.
Shawn's old home was a beautiful house in a cute little neighbourhood. His parents had left everything in his old bedroom the same and it was really nice to get a little glimpse of teenage Shawn.
There were still a lot of fan art and drawings on the walls and I really could imagine him in there playing guitar, making videos and writing his first songs.
We decided to cook pasta with tomato and meat sauce, apparently one of Shawn's favourite meals.
Since Shawn wasn't a real help in the kitchen, he used the time to call Andrew and discuss some business stuff.
As soon as we were alone, Aaliyah told me everything about the day before.
And I mean, everything.
She was still so excited and literally glowing everytime she mentioned Matt. That was the boy's name.
"He texted me as soon as he came home. And since then we're testing non-stop. But sometimes I don't answer right away. After all I don't want him to think that I wait the whole time for his texts. Which I am. Gosh Lilly, I'm so excited. And flustered. And happy."
I smiled. Seemed like I wasn't the only one who spoke like a waterfall sometimes. I was really happy that Aaliyah trusted me enough to tell me all of this.
"What about your brother? Are you going to tell him that you're going on a date tomorrow?" Aaliyah shook her head.
"Never in a million years. Maybe if we'll ever get married I'm going to tell him." I laughed. "Maybe a little bit sooner." Aaliyah shrugged. "Yeah, maybe."Dinner was delicious. I was amazed about how much Shawn could eat. Probably because he worked out every single morning.
Even though he passed on them for the last days because of me. I had told him that it was totally fine by me if he wanted to hit the gym in the morning. But he insisted.
From the little coffee place we got some chocolate cake for dessert, which we ate while watching a movie. It was really a perfect relaxed day.
