Katherine's POV
I was nervous, to be honest. Excited, but nervous. I didn't sleep well the night before. I couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to change for me. I couldn't tell if it'd be for better or for worse, but either way, I needed a change.
Wes pulled up to my apartment around two o' clock, and I skipped out to his car. It was a shiny black convertible. I couldn't help but mouth wow the second I saw it. I'd always dreamed of dating a guy with a convertible "Hey, cutie!" Wes exclaimed as I smiled, noticing another guy sitting in his passenger's seat. "This is my brother, Keaton." Wes said, as the shorter and lighter haired boy next to him smiled and waved at me.
"Hey, nice to meet you." I said shyly as I jumped in the back seat. I'd only ridden in a convertible maybe twice in my lifetime. And I had to admit, it had always been a thrill of mine. Feeling the wind on my face as I looked up at the sky. It was one of lifes natural highs.
"I've heard a lot about you." Keaton said, as Wes shifted gears and sped down the street. Wes shook his head and laughed with emberassment.
"Oh really?" I joked. Keaton nodded, turning around to look at me.
"Yeah. He wouldn't shut up this morning about...."
"So about that job!" Wes yelled over him, interrupting him. I held back from giggling as he continued..."My friend Kenny works part time at this sick little smoothie place right on the beach here in HB. It's called Smoothie Heaven. We're basically best buds with the owner, Rico. You'll love it there." He explained.
"Oh my gosh, I've been there! I love that place! Are you sure he'll hire me?" I asked as Wes turned the music up a little.
"Duh! Rico's a boss! I called him this morning and he said you've got the job." Wes exclaimed, resting his elbow on the door of his car.
"Wes you'e literally the best!" I cried with excitement. "I'd hug you right now if you weren't driving!"
"Should I pull over?" He joked, glancing at me in the rearview mirror. I blushed and bit my lip, looking down at my vans. Wes just laughed, as he pulled into the parking lot of Smoothie Heaven. The three of us got out of the car and walked in. Wes pulled the door open and motioned for me to go in. I smiled at him as I brushed a strand of hair out of my face.
"Thanks..." I said. He just smiled at me, making my temperature rise. That smile, it could make me do anything. It's like the second he looked at me with those mesmerizing hazel eyes and shined that jaw dropping smile, I was under his complete control.
The moment we walked in Wes and Keaton went over to greet their friend Kenny, a tall guy with blue-ish hair and a warm and infectuous smile who was standing behind the counter. "Dudes!" He yelled, as they sat down. Wes motioned for me to follow, so I did, sitting down next to him.
"Sup, Kenny? This is Kat. You're new coworker." Wes said as he pointed to me, giving me a flirtatious smile.
"Awesome! You're gonna love it here, good pay, good vibes, trust me..." Kenny explained. We started discussing the job duties, when Rico came out and immediately gave me a hug.
"You must be Katherine! I've heard a lot about you!" The tall, heavy set man, with dark hair that was tied back in a pony tail said as he gripped me tight. 'I'm Rico, you're new boss!"
"Rico, thank you so much for this oppurtunity, I promise I'm a hard worker and..."
"Oh Katherine!" He said, cutting me off. "Anyone whose friends with these guys, is a friend of mine. You start tomorrow." Rico said, winking as he handed me a uniform and informed me of my schedule that week. I looked over at Wes, who Kenny had just handed a smoothie too. I admired his side profile, getting lost in each and every line and curve of his face. He noticed me staring at him as he turned his head to face me, smirking.
"So, what do you think?" He asked. "Am I awesome, or what?"
"Well, you just nailed me the coolest job in HB, so yeah you're awesome!" I said, glancing at the Smoothie Heaven shirt that was in my hands.
"I'm gonna go meet Tyler over at the boardwalk...have fun you crazy kids..." Keaton winked as he grabbed his smoothie and walked out. Wes and I looked at each other. Kenny was serving some customers, and Keaton was gone. Now it was just us two. It was so strange, but when I looked at him I wanted so badly to just run my hands over his face and kiss him. I swear, no guy had ever had that kind of effect on me. It was to the point where I couldn't even look at him for too long, because I was worried I'd just reach over and grab him.
"So..." Wes started to say.
"So..." I added. Just then, we were interrupted by someone. A girl.
"Wesley Stromberg..." She said, as if she'd known him her entire life. A sudden sorrow swept over me as I looked at the beautiful, green eyed brunette as she sat down on the stool next to him, sipping her green smoothie.
"Sasha." He said, not looking at her.
"Wes, Callie's been wondering about you. She said you won't answer her texts...who's this?" Sasha asked nastily, as she looked at me. Suddenly, I just wanted to run back to Wes' convertible and drive it home myself.
"This is my friend Katherine. She just moved over from New York." Wes said as he stared at me, smiling. My tension subsided as he continued to say, "...and as for Callie, tell her I never want to see her again." I noticed him gritting his teeth, and the vein in his neck showing. I could tell he was getting upset. I felt like, though I'd just met him, I could read him better than I could read even myself.
"Wes, you two aren't really broken up..." Sasha said.
"Yeah we are." He added, finally turning to look at her. "We're done. Over. I'm done for good this time, and she knows it. Feel free to tell her that yourself though if you want." Wes said as he grabbed his smoothie and stood up. "C'mon, Kat, you wanna go?" He asked me. I nodded, and then followed him out to the car.
Suddenly, I could hear Rachel's voice in the back of my head warning me not to get too close to this guy. After all, I'd just met him. And I was nobodies rebound date.
Wesley's POV
"Kat, I'm so sorry about that..." I said as I cruised down Main Street.
"It's fine, Wes." She said, sounding a little hesitant.
"That's my...'friend'...if you even want to call her that, Sasha. She's like, bestfriends with my ex."
"Callie?" Kat asked.
"Yeah..." I said, my skin crawling from just hearing her name come out of Kat's mouth.
"Do you still like her?" Kat asked.
"What?" I shouted, stopping short as I nearly ran the red light. I put my hand over Kat out of habit, protecting her from jerking forward in her seat. "No! No of course I don't like her! I can't believe I ever even liked her in the first place! That girl broke my heart." I stuttered, not really wanting to share this information with Kat.
"She cheated, didn't she?" Kat asked, gazing over at me, sympathy in her voice. The light turned green, and I began to drive, seeing Kat's blonde strands of hair flowing behind her as I drove. I just nodded, not wanting to think about it or about her anymore. Kat patted my knee.
"I understand, Wes. I don't get how people do it. I could never cheat on someone. I'm just a one person kind of person." She mumbled. I turned my head and glanced at her, then. Just when I thought this girl couldn't be any more wonderful, I found out she was perfect. She was looking the other direction now, staring out at the ocean as we drove past it. That's when I knew for sure, I loved her. "Where are we going, anyway?" Kat asked, turning her head back towards me.
"To grab a bite to eat?" I said.
"I'm always up for that..." Kat laughed.
