I don't remember much on the car ride to Louisiana other than my dad getting lost twice to the hotel in which we were going to spend the night. To be honest, I sat in the back seat feeling depressed while my step sister Suzie was fixing her hair next to me after the window would get rolled up, but really who wouldn't feel this sad when you live almost 900 miles away from your real home, maybe I was going a bit overboard considering I had the option to stay but where would I go? And all my friends, would they just find another pretty boy like me? I'd bet half my money that they will, they didn't even seem that sad when I told them I was leaving, I let out a long sigh and continued to stare out the window.
"Adam?" my eyes flickered to my stepmom Terra "Is everything ok sweetheart?"
I sat up slowly "I mean I guess so" I rolled my eyes "I mean I'm not bleeding am I?"
"Alright, I just wanted to make sure" she looked at me sadly and then turned back around
Resting against the car door again I closed my eyes, I hated the idea of leaving Kansas, we even had to leave our dog Jeremiah because the apartment building we are going to go live in doesn't allow dogs, and no amount of apologies can make up for him having to go to the pound, somehow without realizing it I had fallen asleep, I only knew about it because Suzie was shaking me awake, all I did was sit up, but I didn't want to get out of the car cause all I knew was that we'd be sleeping on a blow-up mattress in an apartment complex but what could be more exciting than jumping into the driver's seat and taking off away from here, nothing, that's the answer, I smirked at my own idea, watching my dad haul the last box out of the trunk and set it down I approached him a bit slowly.
"Hey, uh, dad? I'll be in, in a little bit ok?"
"Why don't you come in now? It would be nice of you to help us unpack ya know"
"Yeah but I need to call someone"
"Now?! It's 2 AM, don't you think they'll be asleep?!"
"Nah, remember Ricky? Yeah he wanted me to call em' when I got here"
"That kid that stays up till 5 AM playing video games?"
"Yep! That's him!"
"Ugh, fine but if you don't come inside soon your grounded"
He then quickly grabbed the box and rushed to the door as I pulled out my phone and pretended to call someone while in reality, I was talking with Siri but then I forgot one key component of my plan, I needed car keys, I seriously facepalmed in my own stupidity, sighing I pretended to end the call and shoved my phone in my pocket and stalked toward the door, I had even forgotten where our room was so I went up to a young woman with shorter hair who sat in an office chair dozing off.
"Ah- excuse me, miss?"
She jumped awake looking in all directions but mine then she looked me dead in the eyes, who knows if she was around my age but she surely looked like it.
"Um sorry to startle you but can you tell me where room 350 is?"
It looked like she was blushing for a moment until she looked away "T-Take the last elevator down and it will be on the second floor then it will be the first door to your right"
"Thanks a lot" I responded with a warm smile as I started to walk away
"A-Ah hold on" she closed her eyes
"Yes?" I said turning on my heel
"Who are you exactly?"
I let out a little chuckle before returning back to the desk, I bent down resting my arms on the wood "Adam, I'm sixteen, originally from Kansas, your turn"
