“Wait--you managed to get kicked outta Traveler’s??” The bartender questioned as he passed his customer another shot of whiskey, sliding the glass towards him with a look of disbelief on his face.
The lieutenant picked up the glass and dumped the liquid down his throat before responding, “I shit you not; I throw one chair at a jackass who clocks me in the head, and they aboutta call the police on me. Me!” he proclaimed, gesturing to himself in shock.
The bartender laughed as he dried off another glass. “Man, how’d you think a Wednesday night crowd was gonna react to the angry black man throwin’ around chairs? Ain’t nobody immune…”
“Lord, give me strength. For next time.” Markus cackled and slapped another bill on the table. “Hit me again!”
“Good evening, Lieutenant Manfred.” A voice greeted from behind.
Markus narrowed his eyes and swiveled around. “How the hell do you know my--??”
He froze and cut himself off as soon as he saw the glowing blue ring on the blond man’s temple. Well, it wasn’t exactly a man…
“My name is Simon. I’m the android sent by CyberLife.” The android responded clearly.
“What the fu--”
“I wasn’t able to find you at the precinct, one of your coworkers said your most likely whereabouts were either The Traveler’s Pub or Jimmy’s Bar,” The android... Simon explained, "he said you clocked out early and were most likely upset due to a case you had earlier."
“Oh, my God…” Markus rubbed his face and looked tiredly back up at the android. “Chris is dead when I get back tomorrow.”
Simon blinked, his LED flickering to yellow, “I’m going to have to file a report if that happens, Lieut--"
“It won’t, genius.” Markus downed his fifth shot of the night. “Now skip to the part where you tell me why you're here and I tell you to screw off," he grumbled against the glass cup.
Simon’s LED flashed yellow for a moment and a half before returning back to blue, “shortly after you left the precinct, you were assigned a new case. A homicide, believed to involve at least two different CyberLife androids. I was instructed to find you and accompany you to the crime scene, where I am required to assist you in the investigation. This unfortunately means that you can’t tell me to screw off, Lieutenant.”
“I don’t believe this.” Markus whipped his head around. “So you’re saying Fowler thinks I can’t solve this case by my damn self? He had to send a computer to hold my fuckin’ hand?”
T
he machine stood tall, its arms folded behind its back. Stately, like a sentry. Markus swallowed; he had hoped against hope that it would wither like everyone else.
“As I stated previously, I am here to assist you. I am only authorized to perform those actions that you order me to, Lieutenant,” Simon explained.
Markus raised an eyebrow at the android curiously, “Really?" he asked, "Anything?”
Simon's light flickered as he nodded in response, “As long as it does not violate the American Android Act... then yes.”
