My phone started to ring. It was my dad. He calls me every evening without fail. I told Jackson that my dad is calling me and went to the side to talk to him. Conversation in tamil:
"Hey appa! how are you??"
"I'm good da. How are you?"
"I'm great... I came home early today"
"Oh you worked late yesterday right... that's why"
"Yes exactly" I laughed. He laughed too.
"No knows me better than appa."
"Correct.....today I called you for a special reason"
"Yes appa...what is it?"
"Don't get mad.....but it's about your marriage"
"Not this again....I told you I don't want to get married many times...why do you keep bringing this topic up??"
"No da....all our relatives are asking and you are old enough to get married also."
"I told you I don't want to get married and even if I do I'll marry a person who I really love...which will never happen"
"Ruhi..."
"That's all appa..." And with that I cut the call. I was very angry.
I went back to Jackson and Aimee. Both of them were playing with Rupi. Jackson noticed that I was not all right. He asked me,
"Ruhi are you ok? You don't seem fine."
"I'm alright.... I just fought with my dad."
"Oh....hope you make up soon"
"Yeah even me....can we go home it's getting dark?"
"Ok..even Aimee needs to go to bed early"
"Did you prepare dinner....if you didn't you can eat at my house"
"No I thought I could take Aimee to a restaurant....since you asked I would be delighted to come and who can refuse Indian food"
We both laughed at the same time and started walking home. I was secretly hoping my brother prepared something. When we arrived at my house Kirin was sitting on the couch as if he just woke up from a deep sleep. He got up on seeing Jackson and me. I was very angry at him and he could see that. I told Jackson and Aimee to sit down on the couch and I dragged Kirin into my room. "Kirin I thought you were preparing dinner!!"
"No I was sleeping I was very tired"
"As if I wasn't tired...yet I went to play with Aimee"
"Who told you to play with her"
"I didn't want to disappoint her and Mrs.Wang has done so much for us"
"That's true but can we just eat outside?" He pleaded.
"No I invited them to our house for an Indian dinner"
"We can just take them to an Indian restaurant"
"Fine" I agreed with him at last. I was really mad but I didn't want to keep them waiting. I went and informed Jackson that nothing was prepared and that we would have to go to a restaurant. He seemed fine with it and said ok. I told him to wait for 10 minutes because I wanted to change my clothes.
