Karma was still going up, it had been an hour now, and he couldn't see anything more than he had at the beginning of the path, if not less. The air was black with ash, and it was getting harder and harder to breath. His eyes stung. He hated it here. He wanted to go home, but he couldn't. He was trapped here now. He had to continue on. Karma kept repeating this to himself in his mind, you have to do this. You have no choice. You're a prince. You could be King one day. You have power. You can't back down now. Just a little bit longer. But the truth was, he didn't know why much farther he had to go. There had been no sign that anything had changed at all. He could very well have been standing in the same place as he had at the beginning. It was then that he had to stop. He sat on a tree root that served as a sort of stair, clearly supposed to be there, as the mountain had seemed to just get steeper and steeper. He couldn't breath. His lungs were filled with ash and smoke. He coughs, getting light headed, and more and more unable to encourage himself any longer. I'm going to die here. Right here. All alone. Without anybody who would care. I'll just be one less competitor for the throne. For the power. It's not that I wanted it anyway. He thought, giving up. He sighs, looking at his hand, and with it, lit a small flame in the palm of it. With this, the smoke surrounding his hand seemed to disappear. Karma stared at his hand in shock, and then increased the flame, making it the size of his whole hand, and the smoke and ash flees from around him, and he could breath, and see again. He stands, and with this new confidence fills his head, and he sprints up the mountain. A gaping whole then opens up below him, and he falls through, yelping as his flame goes out, and the ash consumes his lungs again, making him frantically light the fire again, holding his hands closed and close to his face so he could breath and the flame wouldn't go out. He closes his eyes, waiting to hit the ground. Then he did.
