~~~~~~~~~~ Jack ~~~~~~~~~~
I was still at Brianna's house when Jaime texted me. When I glanced at my phone, I didn't expect to see the message that he had sent me. "Jack, go to the park and bring Brianna with you. Get here as fast as possible and don't stop for any reason." Why? Why a message like this? It has to be important. After all we've been through today a message like this had to be important. What could Jaime have gotten himself into now? "Bianca, Its Jaime I think he might be in trouble. He asked us to go to the park and don't stop for anything." "You're kidding, what now?" "I don't know he didn't say, come on let's go quick."
Brianna and I were racing through the backroads: the quickest way to get to the park. The park Jaime had called us too was our typical meetup point. It came to be from Jaime's tendency to hang around the park if he was bored at the boy's home and it was practically equidistant from Brianna and my house. When we arrived at the heavily wooded park, we ran over to the meeting tree of our typical reunion. There we saw Jaime stood near the tree searching in all directions when we got in his line of sight, he made his way over to us.
Jaime rushed over and grabbed me by the shoulders. "Jack, I know why the Reaper attacked us when I went to the boy's home, I had a dream. It was so vivid and real I think it was like a vision or something. It showed me these Eight comets coming to earth but just before the comets reached the atmosphere, they all split up there were sixteen lights all over the world. One of those lights went to me and another came to you, these gems we're wearing they're what's left of the comet and it's what gave me the power to make that wall of ice at the school. I also saw another light go to the reaper; he has the same powers as us. He followed me to the boy's home, the Reaper. He attacked the boy's home and he confirmed my suspicions: he also had the dream I had, he saw the lights and he's going to the lights to recruit them for his army. With this army, he plans to purge the world of what he calls bad people at any cost even if it means hurting people. He tried to recruit me after burning the boy's home I denied his offer and fought back using this gem. He fled from the boy's home and he's coming here to recruit you." "Jaime slow down! That's way too much to take in. Jaime is everything alright?" Brianna interrupted him. His eyes were watering he was serious and he was afraid. "What should we do?" I responded "Jack, the only way I was able to hold of the Reaper was by activating my gem and fighting back. When the Reaper comes here, I'll be holding him off but if you can help me by activating your gem, we can make sure he won't bother us anymore and maybe stop him from hurting anyone else."
"How did you do it" I was ready to take on this gargantuan task. Jaime was in trouble; we both were and we even managed to drag Brianna into this. "When I was at the boy's home, All I did to activate my gem was think that I couldn't give up, I had to keep fighting, and make sure I could end this." Jaime said these words with a sense of determination and pride. I held the quartz tightly in my hand staring at it. I started remembering what my father said when I asked where it came from. "When you were born your grandfather gave you this, it was one of the last gifts he ever gave. Remember him with it, he was a wise man, strong but always found a way out with his mind, not his fists." I've tried to live by those words and now I held the gem in my hand hoping that those words would fuel me. Nothing happened. My gem did not light like Jaime said it would, my gem did not release a clothing that enveloped my body. Could it be that I was a fluke, I wasn't special like Jaime said I was. "It's not working Jaime, I don't feel anything." My words felt empty and disenchanted. "Try a little harder I bet you can, I know I saw it!" I tried to take Jaime's words to heart as I firmly held my gem in hand, but I was distracted by the distant rumbling of thunder where there had been no sign of lightning before. Brianna moved out from where we stood in the tree line followed by Jaime. I felt something was wrong and it seemed the sensed it too. When we got to a clearing, you could see there was something wrong with the sky; a bright sunny day with lightning overhead. "Brianna go back into the tree line with Jack and try to help Jack in some way" Jaime's words stoic yet worried Brianna's response was equally as hurried "Got it" as she took me by the hand into the tree line. Jaime stood ready in the field with his eyes closed and hands to his side and like that a slow glow emerged from his being. Like he had said a fabric mostly black with light and dark blues running through it came to envelop his body. The fabric took the shape of the clothes he was wearing now only with the added article of a bandana covering his mouth and nose. It could not be possible that this was something I could become. In awe and disappointment, I let go of the gem and let my hands fall to my sides. He was standing ready for anything while Brianna and I were hiding in the trees.
