Knuckle: when a submarine is going full speed and pulls a hard turn in any direction it creates a large disturbance in the Water for a few seconds, this can usually fool a Torpedo into going after the knuckle instead of the Submarine
MOSS: Mobile Submarine Simulator
Cavitation: the formation of bubbles (usually on a propeller) causes when lots of force has been forced upon the water, creates lots of sound so usually if you cavitate, you've been detected.
MAD: Magnetic Anomaly Detector
MPA: Maritime Patorl Aircraft
IFF: Identification Friend or Foe
Harpoon: Anti ship missile
TSAM: Anti ship cruise missile
TLAM (Tomahawk): Cruise missile for ground attacks
Baffles: A blind spot where the engine noise is so loud your own sonar can't pick it up
Active Sonar: the vessel emits a loud "Ping" which will bounce of any ship it picks up, but sometimes the return signal is so weak your sensors don't pick it up, so the ship you've just pinged knows your there but you don't know their there
