If I could tell you I knew what was going to happen next, I would. I really, totally, completely would. I mean, what kind of heart-stopping confessions could you tell someone while you're sitting next to them on the curb?

Turns out there's a lot. For this, was so unexpected even I'm still shocked after reminding myself.

"As you know, our childhoods were far from normal. Nor were our pass childhood and our other lives. Even though you don't remember, we have been reincarnated over the years. Really, there is only one of us. The time we return is generally the same, but over time it has gotten longer. Maybe we're in our realms training for something, I don't know. What I know for sure is, something bad is gonna happen," Jason explained.

I wanted to say "So, did you murder me in my past lives, too?" but it just felt wrong. Instead, I said:

"Why should I trust you?"

He thought about this for a long time, until he replied, "You have to trust me, don't you. There's no one else you know who knows what you're going through right now. My Council hasn't helped me, what makes you think yours will? All we have...all we have is each other."

I was about to interrupt his lovely speech to suck up to me, but he continued on first.

"I get it that you don't trust me, Astraea. After all, I attempted to murder you, didn't I? But you lived on, and I don't get why. But I'm sorry, I really am. The scars you probably earned from that might make you think otherwise, but I would take it back if I could."

Bullshit. Even if the did look so sincere with his pleading eyes. I'm not five. What I found interesting, though, was that he thought I lived through it. I obviously didn't, considering the fact I did not wake up at a hospital nor did I have any scars. So, he didn't know I had met the Council before. It was an advantage I was not ready to give up just yet.

"I'll..." I told him," I'll think about it, okay?"

He nodded in approval and slipped me a small smile. It really did look sincere, and I felt my heart warm a little, but there was no way I was going to let my emotions control my thinking. Not yet anyways. I fakely smiled back at him.

We sat next to each other there on the curb for a while, enjoying each others' company. If you could consider it enjoyable, that is. I guess, I was a little glad that I wasn't the only one confused out of her mind.

Finally, he stood up. I couldn't say I was upset that he was going to leave, but I did feel a little strange. I was just about to wave him off.

"Hey," he asked me instead, "wanna go hang out some place else?"

I don't know why, but I felt something in my heart. I also don't know why, but I said yes.
