"Paxton!"
I groaned as I shoved my head deeper into my pillow. I knew I'd regret letting my parents stay with we while their kitchen was being renovated. I mean, who knew the difference in white and pear was that vast.
"Pax," my mom screamed louder and I heard my door open. I noted to lock that next time. I loved them dearly and loved seeing them, but my mom was a handful. I dealt with it because she meant well and she just tended to hover. I was also glad that the renovation only took two weeks and they only had 4 days left.
"Hey Mom," I greeted with my head still in my pillow.
"Paxton Melody Bryan. It is 9 AM, what are you doing still asleep?" she asked me as she wrenched my blanket from my body. I groaned even louder and finally raised my head.
"Mom, it's the weekend. I need sleep. I work full time as a surgeon, if you don't recall."
She had the audacity to look like she felt bad and tucked me back in.
"I know honey. I just thought you'd like breakfast and maybe you should go out," she suggested as she started rifling through my drawers. I made another mental note to lock my doors when I left. I knew she meant well, but it was well know that my mom was a snoop. Goodness knows what she'd find that would send her into a tailspin.
"I'm going to have late lunch with Brielle later," I placated her.
"That's great! Do you want me to come?" she asked. I was about to agree in lieu of sparing her feelings when my dad thankfully swooped in to save me.
"Donna, leave Paxton. And stop trying to intrude on her plans. We are going by the house to check progress," he told her. I could always count on my dad to diffuse a situation and handle it accordingly. I sent him a thankful look and slumped back in my bed after they left. I was about to go back to sleep when my phone rang. Looking at it, I see that it's Brielle.
"Hello," I greet groggily.
"Hey Hun, so are we still on for lunch?"
"Yes, we are. I need a getaway. Mom's driving me insane," I joke.
"I feel you. Let's meet at Mario's."
"Sure, I'll be there at 12:30."
Figuring this was as much sleep as I'd get, I decided to get out of bed and head downstairs. I had breakfast with my parents and headed back up to my room to shower. Before I knew it, it was time to get ready and I quickly tidied my room and change. I donned a pair of light blue distressed denim jeans with a black tee and an over-sized, long burnt orange cardigan.
Rushing downstairs, I saw that my parents were gone and I headed straight for my garage, getting in my Range Rover sport.
The restaurant wasn't that far from my house, but sometimes traffic made it a pain to get there.
Sure enough I arrived there just a few minutes short of our set time which gave me time to park. Just as I got out of my car, Brielle ran up to me.
"Um, hi." I laughed as she panted to catch her breath.
"Soooo," she started and I raised my eyebrow at her. Whenever Brielle had news to break that wasn't particularly pleasing to me, she always started it with so.
"Spit it out Bri," I urged.
"I kind of invited my boyfriend and his best friend," she spit out and smiled sweetly.
"Bri. I love you, but you know I hate surprises," I pointed out.
"I know! And honestly it was last minute. They insisted on coming," she defended. Knowing my best friend, it hadn't taken much convincing on their part. I shook my head and groaned.
