Chapter Two
"Happy birthday Ever!" Jay called out, running down the stairs.
Ever giggled as she was engulfed into a hug.
At the age of 9, Jay was already 4'5 while Ever stayed at her tiny height of 3'11.
"Thank you Jay!" Ever smiled before wincing at her birthday punches.
"One! Two! Three! Four! Five! Six! Seven!" He counted, punching her lightly.
After all, he didn't want to make her cry.
"Okay! Okay!" She laughed before pointing at the pink bag at the bottom of the stairs with her name scrawled on it messily.
"What's that?" She asked making her way towards it.
"Last one up to the tree house is a sore loser!" Jay called grabbing the bag.
Ever sprinted in front of him and like every year on her birthday, he would let her win.
It was only fair since he won 364 days out of the year.
"I won! I won!" Ever screamed, smiling widely.
She made her way into the tree house and sat on the floor.
"It's so pretty!" She chuckled looking at the glow-in-the-dark stars that were a new addition to the tree house ceiling.
"You like it? My dad help me put it up last night for ya!" Jay explained, "Took us forever! It looks real nice when it's dark though."
Ever toddled over and engulfed him into a hug before letting go, "Now can I see what you're holding?"
Jay handed the bag over and watched as Ever's tiny hands opened the blue box.
"Its a ring my momma helped me pick out! She said you'd like it!" He exclaimed, "And when your hands get fatter, you can wear it as a necklace!" Jay told her, pulling out the silver chain and the ring.
He slid the ring on her middle finger before smirking to himself, "I think my gift is pretty good, don't ya?"
Ever nodded, still looking at the ring, "It's very pretty! Tell your mom I said thank you!"
"Hey!" Jay huffed, "What about me?"
"Fine. Thank you to you too." She smiled before grabbing the chain back and placing it in the box, "Now let's go play with the RCs!"

"Welcome back! It's seems like it's been forever since I've seen you Ever!" Jamie ran up to me before giving me a hug.
"Yea... it's been a while." I muttered, putting on a grin.
The truth was, we stopped visiting as often after I had entered high school.
