Mera
I sat up in my bed. I looked around my room, and found out that it was just a dream. Someone murmured beside me. I looked, and it was Shan, my little brother.
"Jesus Christ!" I said, surprised. God, I could've killed this boy..
His eyes squinted, and fluttered open. "Mhm...Mera?" he sat up with me, just when I noticed he was lying on my bed.
"How did you get here, Shan?" I asked, trying to not get a little annoyed.
"I walked." He replied. I sighed, and looked at him. He bit his lower lip, so I thought he could tell what I meant. "I had a nightmare. I couldn't sleep after..." he said in a low voice.
"Do you wanna to talk about it?" I asked, as I started to pat his dark hair as his ocean-like eyes, stared at me. He shook his head and gesturing he didn't want to.
"I see. So, like, can you go back to your room? We both have school tomorrow-"
"Actually, can I sleep in here? Just for tonight?" he pleaded.
"Shan, you have your own room-" I got cut off again.
"Please, sis?"
I could tell that the nightmare he had, must've terrified him. "Ok." I lowered the blanket, as I patted for a spot for him to sleep beside me. He lay his head on my pink-covered pillow, and hugged me tight. He looks so young despite being 15. I can't believe he still sneaks into my room. He's been doing this since he was 12. I'd be lying if I said he's grown up now.
After staring at the ceiling, I eventually went back to sleep.
I then woke up, staring at the dark blue painted ceiling, illuminating the dark sky. I checked the clock and it showed 5:37am. Seeing as that there was no sunlight coming from the window, it looked fairly normal.
The world we live in, has never saw the bright of day. I don't even know how I knew about it. Maybe I read it from a book about there being a sun once. It looked like a massive fireball that could kill people. But in my case, no sunlight means winter every morning and night. Well, it doesn't really often snow, but it's always chilly.
I sat up, shook Shan awake, and told him to take a shower. He nodded, half asleep, and made his way towards the empty hallway. I rubbed my eyes, fixed my bed, and made my way downstairs. I saw Celestine cooking us breakfast.
I saw her flipping pancakes and pouring hot chocolate in white cups. I yawned, which made her turn her attention to me.
"Good morning, Mera" she greeted.
I yawned once more before saying "Morning, Celeste." She looked at me, and crooked her eyebrow upwards.
"Mera, I told you, you can call me mom."
"Got it, Celestine."
She then looked at me with an annoyed expression on her face. I giggled, and said "Ok, got it Mom. Sorry."
She smiled, and turned her attention to the hot pan.
"Where's your brother?" she asked.
"He's still taking a shower. He had a nightmare again, and sneaked into my room. I should chain that boy to his bed, and grab 7 padlocks to lock his door." I said jokingly. She stared at me. "Honey, don't treat your brother like that."
I raised my hands in defeat. "Chill, yo. I was just joking." I said. "Anyway, I'm gonna take a shower now." I said and climbed up the stairs once more.
