May 16th, X794
"W-would you be my girlfriend, (Y/N)?" The normally courageous and brave Natsu has become a nervous wreck.
You chuckled at his behaviour and hugged him. "Of course I will, Natsu!" His face lit up and he had little tears in his eyes.
Natsu, one of the first few to welcome you to Fairy Tail when you had just joined, and even helped you improve your fire magic when you were younger.
He became your best friend and you two always completed quests together. Now, you were officially a couple.
———
It's been almost 3 years since you and your boyfriend, Natsu have been going out. Your anniversary, which is on the 16th of May, is drawing near.
You've been thinking about ways to celebrate the special day with your little pyro, including extravagant dinners at a hotel, to renting a small house by the beach, to a little homemade meal.
You'd been planning everything because you were sure that Natsu doesn't even know what an
anniversary is."(Y/N)? Are you still busy?" Your favourite pink-haired fire mage peeked into your room where you were planning everything on your computer.
You let out a deep sigh. "Yes, I am, Natsu. Now if you would kindly leave..." He nodded and left the room, leaving only the sound of you tapping the keyboard.
———
Stretching your arms out, you closed the laptop and put it aside. It was 12:47 a.m. Natsu had already left to his house three hours ago.
You sluggishly dragged yourself to your bed in the corner of the room and dumped yourself on top of it.
You fell asleep as soon as you closed your eyes.
———
The morning sun hit your eyes through the crack in your curtains. You sat up and yawned before heading towards the bathroom.
You almost fell in the toilet and toothpaste had gotten all over your face. You clearly didn't have enough sleep.
You smacked yourself awake. "Wake up, (Y/N)!" You continued repeating that sentence while clapping your cheeks to the point that it became red.
"A cup of coffee should wake me up," You started grinding the coffee beans and poured it through a filter.
You grabbed your phone to call a couple of restaurants for your anniversary. "Is this Ristorante Aldini? Are reservations- oh -that's okay..."
"Excuse me, could I reserve a table for two on May 16th? No..? Thanks anyway..."
The doorbell sounded and you opened the door. "(Y/N)? What's wrong? You look terrible!" Your friend, Lucy, had come over to visit you but was surprised by the obvious bags under your eyes.
"Nothing... probably just lack of sleep," Lucy frowned and grabbed my shoulders. "That's no good! I'll have to fix you up immediately!"
She dragged me out of my house and forced me to shut the door. "But Lucy, I'm not even dressed nicely!"
"Then we'll get you some new clothes!!"
———
"I really don't see why you're doing this, Lucy," She just smiled at me as she continued looking through the racks of clothes.
"Try this on, (Y/N)!" Lucy held out a short sleeveless gown. It was red in colour with added sequins as its pattern.
I took the dress from her and went to try it on. "It looks great on you! We'll wear it out!"
Lucy paid the cashier and I went out with my old clothes in a paper bag. "Next stop, the spa!"
"Lucy, just wai-" And we sped off.
I was forcefully given a thorough hair wash along with a head massage even though I had repeatedly told Lucy that I didn't need it.
"Just a little makeup on her, make it look natural," Powder was on my cheeks and brown was all over my eyelid.
I looked at myself in a mirror. I certainly did look better than how I was when I left. "Thank you, Lucy," I realised that there wasn't any point arguing with her anymore.
"Anytime, (Y/N)," She took a glance at the clock on the wall. "Ah! It's 6:50! Perfect timing!" We started to walk back to my house.
When we reached there, I turned myself around to face Lucy. "Thank you for today, Lucy. I was feeling really stressed recently."
"Just wait until you walk inside!" She gave me a sly wink before walking off. I slowly turned the doorknob, cautiously pushing the door open.
The scent of lavender filled the air. All of the lights were off but the room was illuminated by three candles.
"Happy anniversary, (Y/N)."
There, you saw Natsu in a suit sitting in front of a table full of dishes. "Wait, is today our anniversary?!" You were shaking with worry.
He smiled and nodded. "You'd been so busy that you lost track of the date, (Y/N)!"
"Natsu... did you make all of this? Without burning everything down?" He pouted at my comment. "Wendy and Mira came over to help me cook some of the dishes. But I did bake the cake all by myself."
I giggled at my boyfriend. "Thank you... Natsu," He stood up and gave me a hug.
———
After dinner, Natsu rummaged through his bag and pulled out a little bag. "It's for you."
I opened up the bag to see a little sapling. "It's a sign of our ever growing love. When it grows into a tree, we can even carve our initials in it!"
I let out a little laugh. "But where are we gonna plant it? In front of your house or in front of mine?"
He grinned at me. "I have a solution to that," He took his other hand out of his pocket and opened the little box.
"(Y/N), will you spend the rest of your life with this hopeless dork?"
I dropped my cutlery. "N-Natsu! Of course!"
He smiled at me. "I was hoping you'd say that! If you didn't, I don't know what I'd do!"
"I love you, my hopeless dork."
EPILOGUE
"Mama! What are these letters?" Your daughter, Naila, pointed towards four letters in a heart carved onto the bark of a tree.
"Well, six years ago, your Papa gave me a baby tree. We planted it in front of our house and when it grew into a big tree, we put our names in it!"
Naila's face lit up. "Can I join Papa and Mama?" I chuckled. "Of course, sweetheart," I called Natsu over with a carving knife.
"And.... done!" Natsu wiped off the sawdust from the tree.
"Natsu D. plus (Your Name) (Your Last Initial) equals Naila D."
