My eighteenth birthday was the day my life turned upside down.

They would be sending people back to Titan. It had been on the news for a few months now, but it was finalized today. I didn't really care if the law was passed or not, my mother, on the other hand, seemed to care a great deal. She spent the whole day in her room when she heard that it got passed. I could hear her crying from the other side of the door, I came to the conclusion that she must have a friend that's from Titan. At least, that's what I assumed...until my mother told me something that would change my life forever.

My mother came out of her room, her eyes were bloodshot, and there were tear streaks running down her face. She wrapped her arms around me tightly, I could tell that she was trying her hardest to not cry in front of me. She took a step back and held me at arm's length, she gave me a strained smile as she squeezed my arms lightly. She sighed, "I have something very important to tell you, and I need you to understand that I didn't tell you sooner because I wanted to protect you."

These words made my blood run cold. "W-what is it?" I asked with a shaky voice.

She led me to the couch and took a deep breath, "I'm not your real mom. Your mother was from Titan. She brought you with her to Earth when you were only a few months old. I adopted you after she died." Her voice cracked as she said this. "She was my best friend, she was like the sister I never had. I'm so sorry that I didn't tell you this before, but I thought you'd be safer if everyone thought you were an Earthling. You know that people aren't kind to Titanians."

My brain was trying desperately to comprehend what she was telling me, if this is true, then that means....I'm going to be sent back to Titan.

I broke down, I couldn't hold it in. I was absolutely terrified, I didn't even know what Titan was like, and I'd have to live my life there. "I have to move to Titan, don't I?" My voice broke as I asked this. I already knew what the answer was, but I needed to hear someone else say it.

My mom smiled sadly. "Yes." She said, nodding slightly.

That was the moment my heart broke.
