Chapter 12

Swing me

Dinner was stew from veggies that Danny had planted last time she was there. Danny was glad she had planted them, its what she had been eating the week they had been hidden there. She also traveled to the local store that apparently was just a fifteen minute walk. But thats all they had, and they were running out of money and food, so they'd have to head back to Ninjago city soon.

Zareth sat down on the couch relaxing, his stomach hurt from being filled after being injured. He was only able to put away one bowl of stew before sitting back. After living mostly on broth and water for a week it was easy to see why. Danny heard Zareth make a funny noise from the room next to the living room. She was pulling out the blankets for the night. She peaked into the room rather worried. She saw that he had noticed her fathers old batch of records. They had belonged to him when he was a teenager. He picked up a record and smiled. He looked around and spotted the record player. Danny giggled and rolled her eyes going back to the closet. Swing music began to belt from the record player. She could hear Zareth singing from the next room right along with the music.

"You asked me over and over..." He whistled before singing again.

"Where is your heart at, nobody knows that." Danny looked into the room to see him leaning against the wall snapping his fingers and chewing on a toothpick.

"Even though you've and him, and her me that I've been searching..." He held out his hand for her. Danny put the blankets down on the couch before taking his hand.

"Please don't over do it Zareth. I don't want you hurting yourself." He smiled pulling her into a spin.

"I've got a feeling you will be reeling when you are bad and the circus comes to town..." He spun her around a little again before the music ended. He chuckled and sighed sitting back down on the couch. The candles flickered next to the breezy window.

"You have a lovely singing voice." Danny said plopping down on the couch next to him.

"Oh what about you?" Zareth asked. Danny noticed that when a conversation went to something about him being good at something he turned it around. He always talked about how wonderful he was out loud and boisterous...but when someone acknowledged it he brushed it off.

"Oh I don't sing." She said and blushed. She saw Zareth lean back and put his arm over the back of the couch.

"I donno beautiful. I think you'd have a lovely voice. But...if you don't want to thats fine." He said and winched stretching to far. Danny was right there in moments her hand over the wound. She was looking him in the eyes.

"Babe...chill...I'm good." He chuckled

"You scared me...their were nights I stayed up because I was so afraid I'd wake up and you were..." She closed her eyes and lowered her head. Zareth cupped her face in his hands. She looked him in the eyes.

"You did good. I know I wasn't the best patient at the beginning. My...nievenzess scared you a bit. I understand now what you did. " He said He could feel the trimmer under his hands. "Thank you for worrying, taking care of me, even if I was...stupid." The last word was said under his breath. He cleared his throat and looked up at Danny when she stood up.

"Yes well your...a jerk." She said and her cheeks turned red a little. She turned around and put her hair behind her ear as she went back and forth from one foot to the other unsure of her next words. Zareth knew she didn't want to say what she was going to. But she wanted to get it off her chest. She turned halfway around her hands formed into fists.
