We ended spending the night in the shack house, Elijah had gotten worse, the fever had started and he couldn't do much more than lay on the bed while me and Hayley took care of him. To say I was mad at dad was an understatement.
Hayley handed Elijah a glass of water, thankfully they had a place with fresh water here "Here, drink this."
Elijah accepted the glass, taking a sip but he immediately started to cough it up all the water he had drunk now on the floor "forgive me please."
"It's okay" I said pushing Elijah back so he was laying down again "just no liquids."
"Remind me to annihilate your brother once you're healthy" Hayley said looking through some draws.
"Yes, remind me to remind you to get in line" he replied.
"I'm not even objecting" I sighed sitting on the chair next to Elijah's bed.
"It doesn't help that we decided to shack up in a swamp either" Hayley noted wondering outside.
"It's not like we had much of a choice. And besides at least you two aren't in your pyjamas" I said.
Elijah started to fight again, Hayley came back in "You okay" she asked.
"I'm fine. Please just return to your reading"
"We'll both me and Mackenzie have gone through the whole thing. It's just a regular Bible" Hayley said sitting down in a chair next to mines.
"With a century's long family tree" I added.
"And with an entry that may or may not be me" Hayley finished.
"But neither of us have had much time to do anything but worry and take care of you" I said.
"Girls please, Mackenzie you know what this bite will do, this fever will make me unstable. And once the hallucinations begin I'll start to see things. You must leave me here."
I snorted, crossed my arms and leaned back on my chair "if you think I'm leaving you like this you're wrong,"
Elijah sighed giving up with me for now "Hayley you have the chance to leave, take it" Elijah said before coughing again.
"No I think I'm good" she replied.
Elijah fell asleep not long after so me and Hayley moved outside so he could be in peace, instead of going out front we went out back sitting on a bit of decking that leads to a lake "do you think they're here, our family" Hayley asked.
