Complicated

Kou (Part 1)

I pace in my room that Friday night and try to think of what to say to her.

"Damn it! She's much younger than me but I've fallen for her. Her smile, her laugh, everything about her just makes me happy… what should I say!?"

I get on one knee

"Aris, I pledge to you, I am yours to do what you please with"

I shake,

"if you'll have me…"

I collapse on the floor and lay down on my back, holding my hands to my face

 "I don't know what to say…"

 I hold my hands in the air and examine them,

"What should I tell Betrice… that I've fallen for another? That in such a short time this girl stole my heart without even realizing it? I can't be with them both, it wouldn't be fair to Betrice…"

 I sigh and cover my face again

"Aris…"

 I picture her in my mind. Cute small face with beautiful eyes too big to go with it. Slightly past her shoulder brown hair. I think about her eyes some more and shake my head

 "Stop! You're only making it worse…"

I sigh once more reaching for my ceiling light

 "so close yet so far away eh Kou kun?"

 I cover my face

"go away I'm busy…"

 my friend Mokukawa walks in with his hands behind his back

"thinking about Aris? Or are you thinking of ways to break up with Betrice? Or both?"

I roll over and face plant the floor

"I'm busy-"

I quickly lift my head

 "Moku you've had a girlfriend right?"

Mokukawa picks up the stuffed dog Betrice had given me and turns it around as little white beads fall out

"yea why?"

 I look at him for a minute and look at the stuffed dog with a small frown

"I just figured out I'm in love"

Moku looks at me

 "That’s nice, show her then-"

"It’s not Betrice…"

He raises a brow and smiles

"Ahh I see, so you finally found someone after Jace? Aris is it?"

I look away

"Ahh so it is Aris"

I nod slightly

 "so if you don't want to hurt someone, how would you go about breaking up with them?"

 Mokukawa frowns.

"If you don't want to hurt them, try distancing yourself first, sooner or later they will get the hint and break up with you"

Mokukawa looks down at me

 "of course there are others that will always want to be with you"

I look at Moku

"what was that?"

he tosses the dog and plops on my bed with a smile

 "nothing~"

I prop myself up on my elbows

"Moku kun?"

 Mokukawa looks at me with his eyebrows raised

"huh?"

"Do you have someone you like right now?"

He quickly looks away from me blushing

 "y-yea…"

I tilt my head

"tell me! We've been friends for like six years now, I think I deserve to know!"

he continues to look away from me

 "you don't really need to know"

 I flinch

"o-oh I see"

 I lay back down and stare at the ceiling some more

 "well if you want to tell me I'm always here"

 Mokukawa looks at me and ruffles my shortish long dirty blond hair

"I'll tell you when I'm ready, sound good?"

I grin widely and crawl away from his ruffling

 "sounds good"

"Moku kun! Kou kun! Come eat!"

 my mom calls for us and we head downstairs to eat.
