“w-what’s wrong?!”
He lets go and starts to jog. Kou’s a bad runner, his breathing is bad, it’s just all bad, and he knows it. I jog after him
“Kou Kun?”
“Day after tomorrow I’m going to confess to her”
I look at him in shock
“what!? Are you for real?!”
He nods
“I’m as serious as a heart attack, I’m not sure how she’ll react but I need to try”
he holds his fist up in determination
“I need to try”
I hide the frown I want to show with a smile
“good luck then”
he smiles and nods
“thanks! Good luck with the person you like too!”
I internally scream
“thanks Kou”
“any time. We’re best friends after all”
“so are you going to stop running or what?”
Kou smiles
“oh right”
he starts walking and breathing heavily
“man I shouldn’t run at all!”
I nod
“with your asthma you shouldn’t run so fast and long, you want to go back so we can eat?”
kou nods
“yea if we’re out too long my mom will worry”
I smile at kou and as we walk back towards his home I watch the stars.
“Kou?”
“Yea?”
“What do you think is beyond the stars? Other than more stars and galaxies I mean.”
Kou looks up
“Beyond the stars?”
He looks at me questioningly
I smile tilt my head and nod
“Yea, beyond the stars”
“Aliens”
I stare at him and he catches me as I stumble
“D-did you seriously just say that!?”
He gives me his adorable signature grin that I love so much
“Yea sure why not!? I mean if there can be humans and cows in this galaxy, on earth, what’s to stop there being some in other galaxies? Some other ‘Earth’?”
I smile and nod to him, looking back to the sky as we reach his house
“You make a valid point my good sir”
He opens the door to his house for me and I walk in to see his mom standing there smiling with Kou’s favorite dish, peach cobbler
“Since you’re staying the night Moku-kun I figured I’d make you boys some treats, you are staying the night right?”
She tilts her head knowingly. Which, of course, means I have a conversation to repeat later. I sigh with emphasis
“I feel like I have no choice! No worries! I shall stay! Mwahaha!!!”
I put my arm around Kou as he drools at the cobbler and shake him
“kou-kun~ let’s eat!”
………..
We enter Kou’s room and he turns off the lights.
“Moku?”
He looks at me as he crawls to make room for me in his bed
“Yea?”
I crawl in after him, my favorite part about sleeping over at Kou’s house is his family doesn’t believe that there should be ‘wasted blankets’ so I always share the bed with Kou.
“Thanks”
He smiles warmly at me and before I can respond he says
“You’re my best friend”
Friend zoned
I smile and nod
“no problem and you’re my best friend too”
