"Oh! There he is. Mace!" I waved across the plaza to the very spiffy-looking male and his parents.
We met in the middle and started with the formalities. You know, "I'm Rebecca Thrynn, you can call me Beca," and "Pleasure to meet you. I'm Eliza,"
I stood on tiptoe to whisper in Mace's ear, "Nice tux. Is that your sister's?" He wasn't even phased, "No, but it seems you wore a tablecloth. It looks nice, though." I hit his shoulder, "Shut up, goof." "Only if you do, goof."
We stopped when we realized all eyes were on us.
Nice. You were just caught flirting with your possible mate. Good job, Reagan. Do you want to kiss him now?
Mace coughed, "Uh, shall we go in?" We all shuffled in and got seated, Mace and my Mom on one side, Mace's mom and I on the other and our Dads at the ends of the table. Cue polite small talk!
"So, Reagan, what classes do you two share?" I put my glass of water down, "Well, Mrs. Mitchell, we share all classes except for Biology and Geography." "Please, call me Eliza." Oh, of course, Eliza! So nice to see you approve of me! Ugh. I tried to hold back the urge to scowl and instead I smiled politely, forcing my manners to cooperate.
Eventually, our mothers started talking to each other and our dads were still sizing each other up, looking for a weakness. I shot a glance at Mace that practically spoke out loud, "This sucks." He nodded, subtly. I sipped my water, wishing I was at home in sweatpants, reading in the attic.
This cannot end quicker. Alpha, have mercy on me, set something on fire so we can leave, please.
