Chapter 17 Smarter than we first thought

I lead Scarlet out to the playground to muck around with the other kids, and I could see straight away that a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Suddenly I looked towards her hands to see her gloves on.

"Scarlet come over here quickly." I said fairly loud so that I knew she could hear, and I knew she had as she came running over.

"Yeh." She said looking up at me.

"Give me your hands." She reluctantly out her hands into my outstretched palms, and before she knew it I ripped off her gloves.

"What did you do that for?" She said while trying to reach for her gloves.

"Well you are still here and you are coming home with me now and you do not come into the house with those things on your hands."

"But once I go into your house there won't be anymore healers and, and I don't know what will happen."

"I would agree with you accept for the fact that one of the guests I'm having over tonight is a healer and you've seen my powers if anything bad happened I would be able to help." I smiled at her, as she hung her head down realising that I would have an answer and solution to anything she tried to argue about.

"Go on, go and plan with the other kids until they all go home, then we'll leave." She smiled back up at me as she went off with the other kids.

I walked into the office and looked at the clock to notice it was 6 o'clock, and as she had said, Melody walked through the office doors.

"Well then right on time, like always." I smiled at her.

"Of course, now the shall we get started?"

"Actually there is a change of plans." Melody stared at me for a while wondering what I could mean before she gave up and just asked.

"Ok what trouble have you planned for us now?"

"Oh nothing much, just a visitor."

"What do you means visitor?"

"Well you see, Scarlet and her mother had a fight, so Scarlets not aloud home,"

"So you said she could stay with you."

"Yes, but it's only until her and her mother sought it out."

"Well then what are you going to tell her about your friends that are there tonight as well, from what I've heard she'll figure it out in no time flat."

"Yeh about that, I'm probably going to have to change your names so that it doesn't give her any hints." I stared at her while she was laughing. "What's so funny?"

"You always have to choose the hard way out."

"Well what else was I supposed to do, I couldn't not tell you all the news, however it will be difficult to tell you with her around."

"I don't get why you couldn't just tell me now, I mean it can't be that bad of news."

"I wouldn't be so sure, and besides I want you all to find out together, the we can discuss what to do, anyway we won't look into her today. Do you want to watch the kids with me until then?"

"Why not, it would be nice to play with some innocent little kids again instead of looking after nightmares."

"Oh come on your kids aren't that bad."

"Oh yeah, wait until you have kids."

"In not waiting for to long." I whispered to myself.

"What was that?" She asked me.

"Oh never mind, you'll hear it in good time, in good time." She stared at me but eventually just ignored it.

"Well then how about you introduce me to all of the kids, especially this Scarlet, after all this news about her I still haven't met her."

"Of course, but before that how about we choose a new name for you."

"Oh right, keeping our identity a secret, well then my new name is jewels, but only until she has figured it out, if she does anyway."

"I have a feeling she'll be the first."

"And you always have had a good gut." We both laughed, before remembering that no one was watching the kids.

We walked out and saw that they had just been playing harmfully, so I called them all over to introduce Melody, but I didn't think that we would have to change her name so I asked her. "Do you think we really have to change your name, I mean if one person has the same name as someone in the story it could just be a coincidence, and besides I have hardly mentioned you."

"Yeh your right, and then were not lying to the rest of the kids."

"So if you think it's alright we'll keep your name the same." We both smiled at each other before walking back over to the kids. "Kids this is Melody and she is one of my friends, she's going to hang around with us for a while." Melody walked over to the kids and was trying to learn all there names as they threw them all at her. I laughed as I heard one of the young boy asked her why she had a tail, "well you see Harris not all mutants look human, and also she part cat." I smiled at him as I walked into the hall.

"Scarlet, come over here quickly." I said and Scarlet walked over slowly, not sure what i was going to do this time. "This is one of my friends that are over for the night so she'll be coming home with us."

"Really, she has the same name as one of the girls in your story, what could she do again, that's right she was the one that could control fire and when she taught Emerald how to use fire she accidentally set fire to the house and nearly burnt it down, but thankfully Dax was there to out it out because he could control water."

I stood there dumbfounded at the fact that she had memorised a part of my story, maybe she hadn't said it word for word, but she was damn close.

"How, how did you remember that?" I asked wondering if one of her powers was a photographic memory.

"I honestly have no idea, Ruth always used to think that it was another one of my powers but I think that I just have a good memory." I hung her head back down as if it was nothing.

"That's absolutely amazing, but I don't think that it could be a power, I mean I have never heard of an SNB having that sought of power, and trust me I know a lot more about the types of powers people can have, a lot more than you think I do."

"Well then a guess that it's just me, the human part anyway. Should I go and try to get to know Melody, I mean if she's one of your friends and I'll be talking to her all night I might as well know what kind of thinks can spark a conversation with her.

"Actually I'm going to need to talk to her again just for a second, I forgot to tell her that you were coming tonight." After saying that I sent Scarlet off to get Melody for me and she came over merrily.

"You called?"

"I think this is going to be harder than we thought."

"What do you mean?"

"I was just talking to her and she recognised your name straight away and then practically said a whole section of my story that I had accidentally said that had you and Dax in it and had completely made the connection. She was basically testing me to see if I would admit that you were in it or if I would agree that it was just a coincidence like she said it was."

"Wo, wo, wo, slow down, you just said so yourself that she said it was just a coincidence so maybe she truly thinks it does, this just means that we'll have to be a tad bit more careful from now on."

"I just never expected that, and I don't know if it's a new power or not, so I don't know what to do." I just stood there staring at this girl playing happily with these other kids and I was just thinking about the fact that she might have a future ahead of her that she could be absolutely dreading.
