This, this was the day Matt disliked most. His birthday. A supposedly important day, that no one ever noticed. Except for Alfred, for some reason, he was the only one who actually remembered his birthday, so Matt didn't mind that. He pulled himself off the bed and pulled his favourite hoodie over his head, walking downstairs. He spotted Al laying on the couch playing Call Of Duty on the big screen, and went to sit with him.
"Morning Alfred." Matt said, with a slight smile on his face. He received a grunt for response. This made Matt frown. Sure, Al would often get so engorged in his games he would completely ignore everyone. (Not that Matt wasn't used to it.) But even so, he would always respond on Matt's birthday. No matter what. Did he, forget? No, he would never forget my birthday... Would he...? Matt started to panic silently, sincerely hoping his own brother didn't forget, he never did...
"H-Hey, Al?" Matt asked timidly. "Yeah?" Alfred responded without looking. "You remember what today is right?" Please say you remember... Please... "Yeah, it's July 1st." Please, please no... "What about it?" God no... Please god no...! That did it. Alfred, his own brother, had forgotten his birthday. Matt turned away, and got up rushing to his room, leaving Alfred playing his game as if nothing happened.
Matt opened his door in a hurry, waking up Kumajiro, who looked up rather confused. Matt sat down on his bed and held his head in his hands. Kuma crawled over, and put his paw on Matt's knee with a sad look on his face. He then snuggled his nose under Matt's arm, and Matt just grabbed him and started crying. Kuma was a bit confused, but snuggled into him, trying to calm him down.
Matt continued crying, and holding Kuma close. It isn't fair! This isn't fair! How could my own brother forget my birthday?! I thought he was different! I hate this! I hate it!!! Matt finally let it all out, and just sobbed into Kumajiro's fur. Why was he invisible? Why did no one know who he was? Why did no one care?? Why, why WHY?! Then, something caused him to snap.
Kuma lifted his head a little, and uttered a single word, a word that finally broke Matthew. "Who?". That did it. Matt gently tossed Kuma away from him on the bed, not wanting to hurt him, and stood up clenching his fists till his skin turned ivory. "Stop." Matt whispered so quietly, not even he could hear himself. Kuma tilted his head, and asked again. "Who?" Matthew whipped around and yelled at the small bear. "STOP!! I hate you! Just go away!"
The little bear didn't know why, but the boy's words hurt him, deep down, he felt bad for angering the boy. Though he didn't know how he hurt the boy, he felt sad. Matt watched as Kuma left the room, head hanging low. Matthew didn't know that little Kumajiro, had no intention of returning.
Matthew shut his eyes tightly, trying to control the waterfall of tears escaping from him. He couldn't control it anymore, and he fell to his knees, his sobs racking through his body. When the worst of it had finished, Matt laid down in his bed, and fell asleep, not being able to face his brother again that day.
