Champagne glasses, classic music in the background and wealthy people all discussing among themselves. Here I am again....at another family reunion, for the second time this year. My mother Debra and father Albert, consistently host our family reunions, in their six bedroom modern home which my siblings and I all used to live in.

"Excuse me, I'd like to make a toast," My mother taps lightly on her glass of champagne which got everyone's attention, she clears her throat before she continues, "I'd just like to thank everyone for attending our family reunion once again, it means so much to me that everyone who was available, is standing here with me today. This is our 61st family reunion from the early fiftieth century to now and I'd like to keep this twice-a-year reunion in our family for many generations. To my mother and father who are at rest, my wonderful husband of 40 years and counting, my five beautiful and handsome children, my grandchildren, my sisters and brother, my cousins, aunts, uncles, distant relatives, my in-laws, and the family pets. A toast to family." She raises her glass in the air which everyone follows in unison. The music came to play again and the conversations fills back in. I drank down my champagne and went to find my older siblings.

While looking for my siblings, I bump into my parents. I knew what they were going to say, so I answered before they could speak. "No, I'm not in a relationship, looking for a relationship or want a relationship."

"My dear, you're almost thirty." My mother says to be frank.

"Key-word, almost." I point out.

"If I don't see any grandkids from you before I die, I will haunt you." Daddy threatens.

"Ah, the single duck of the family. Attending yet, another family reunion by herself." My brother comes and slings his arm around my shoulder, teasing me for being single.

"Your worried about me being single?" I scoff at my idiot brother, "I'm single because it's guys like you that go around breaking hearts!" I yell. Everyone quiets down and look in our direction. "You know Diamond (Eric's girlfriend) is pregnant and yet you went off and fucked with another bitch! She called me crying, crying because she found your dog ass texting with another girl." I finish. Everyone gasp at my language and the news I just broke.

My mother gasp and passes out, my father was piss, he shoves Eric then hits him in front of everyone. "That is not how I raised you! You bring shame to me! Shame to your mother!" He spoke angrily. Everyone gets tense when daddy's mad, he's normally smiling ear to ear twenty four hours, but when shit hits the fan. No one wants to be around.

"I-I'm s-sorry!" Eric starts tearing up. It was probably from the shame and embarrassment he felt, or the hard hit that left a stinging red mark on his cheek.

"Thirty years and still being reprimanded." A relative comments. My mother wakes up in my arms and catches her breath.

"Eric Gregory Miller." Was all she said and shakes her head.

I felt bad that I tattle tale on my big brother, but I felt worst for Diamond with the situation she's in. I left the scene and went by the bar.

"Wow, I didn't see that coming." Elle takes another tequila shot.

"Bartender, one beer." I sat with my sister Elle and my brother Ezra at the bar.

"I can't stay too late, the kids have school in the morning." My brother Ezra, the eldest says before drinking down his entire bottle of water.

"Calm down, you have a babysitter right? Let him or her do their job." Elle takes another shot.

I receive my beer and immediately start drinking it down, to Elle surprise she starts chanting 'chug, chug, chug'.

"I-I am going to make a call." Ezra ups and leaves to go find a quieter place to talk on the phone.

"Ha, ha I'm so drunk right now." Elle laughs lightly swirling around her pinky finger.

"When are you ever sober?" I ask rhetorically.

"You know, having three kids is a lot of stress. You have to dress them, feed them, drive them around and pay school tuitions," She starts, "I love my goofballs, even if they give me headaches ninety percent of the time, I love them more than I love myself." She smiles before taking another shot.

"Must be nice........Have you heard from Elsa lately? I've been texting her all week with no answer." I change the topic.

"No, she 'cut me off' like the kids say nowadays."

"The family is crazy, we have a single-father brother, a secretive sister, an alcoholic, which is you, a cheating ass brother, then there's me." I list off.

"Your the one who doesn't believe in love." Elle says before taking another shot for the millionth time.

"How can I? Every guy wants me for body or money, then there's the cheaters, like Eric and I could on and on about not wanting a relationship, but I have work in the morning." I got up, leaving my empty bottle on the table and my drunk sister.

"Your just afraid to love babe! Love is about taking a risk! Excuses can't hold you back forever. It's the most fucking beautiful thing in the world!" She shouts out after me.

I took my purse and held my head high as I left the house.
