After that night, I settled into my old bedroom in my parents house (unfortunately). The bank called saying their giving me until the end of next month to meet my mortgage payment. Thankfully, I got the job—all thanks to my parents—and start today. Right now, I'm back to square one, sitting in the taxi waiting to arrive at my destination and living with my parents. Yay! ~sarcasm
My parents offered to drop me to work, but I decline knowing that they were going to act as if it's my first day of high school all over again. I got out of the taxi, tipping the driver because he's cute, I sigh and relax my shoulders.
"You got this Erin, it's only your second job. No biggie." I say to myself.
Around me, people were dress in office-like attire, holding cups of coffee, using their phones or either talking with each other. I felt left out, so I took out my own phone. Zero notifications—as usual—since I deleted all of my social media thanks to Judith. As I was about to put my phone away, someone bump into me, which led to my phone cracking on the concrete. Everyone stops their task and looks my way.
"No!" I kneel down and pick up my-now-broken phone.
"I'm terribly sorry, I'm just so clumsy all the time." A man extends his hand to help me up.
I refuse his help and got up on my own. I look his way with furrow brows piss at him for making me drop my phone.
"You're sorry? Sorry isn't going to replace this nine hundred dollar Samsung!" I march into the enormous building that made other buildings look inferior.
I look around the lobby and found an empty seat next to the coffee machine. Score!
I went over and took the empty seat now making it occupied my by curvy behind and cross my ankles examining my phone."The camera's busted, now how am I going to take photos?" I pout and examine further, when the culprit came over and stood in front of me.
"What do you want?"
"To apologize."
"Didn't I say your apology isn't going to fix this phone?"
"I can buy you a new phone........If you give me a week."
"I want to say yes, but your a stranger and I don't know your financial situation or status."
"I'm Kaleb, with a k. See? I'm not a stranger anymore."
"Nice to meet you Kaleb, with a k. I'm still not letting you buy me a new phone, I can buy it myself."
"Alright, Ms.Independent." He smirks.
"I have things to do." I got up from my chair standing below his shoulders and made my way to the front desk before heading to the elevator, to meet my boss.
...
"You've reached level five." The elevator states.I step out and walk around looking for the office door that has, Ashley Gomez, written on it.
I got the job in the sales department seeing that I was a former real estate agent on my resume. You know what's funny? I haven't seen the name of the company anywhere around the exterior or interior of the building. All I know is that I'm hired in the sales department. After passing, what felt like the fifth-tenth door, I knock on Ms.Gomez door. The sales manager.
"Come in!" I hear her sing.
I enter the cold office, immediately hit with vibrant and funky colors. I look to see a woman spinning around in her computer chair with a orange headband on and sunglasses resting on her nose. I felt easy looking at her laugh and giggle and simply spinning in the chair. A half bottle of blue Gatorade sat on her desk and a box filled with paperwork next to her desk.
"Ms. Gomez?"
"Yes, that's me!" She giggles.
"I'm the new employee in the sales department, Erin Miller."
"Miller, Miller, chicken, dinner!" She laughs.
"Yup, that's me, chicken dinner." I grit through my fake smile.
"Oh come here, I have to show you to your co-workers." She takes my hand and runs out of her office with me following and announce, "Hey, guys. This is the new employee I told you all about. Isn't she pretty?" She said, emphasizing the pretty.
I cough at how delusional this woman is, she's introducing me to stuff animals. Her grip on my wrist loosen and I take my hand from her. Confused and scared I start to back away from her.
"W-where is e-everyone?" I ask.
"Out for breakfast." Someone said, walking around me and picking up the teddy bear to sit in the computer chair.
I felt relieved to find someone else here other than me and miss crazy. The girl who just came, sat calmly in her computer chair with the teddy bear on her desk, looking me up and down. Her dark brown eyes were peering at me like a hunter staring down its prey. My boss dances around petting the stuff animals on their heads.
"I'm Shelby......and you are?"
"Erin."
"Haha, great your Erin number four."
"Number four?"
"Yeah, we have three more two women name and a pet plant that share the same name as you. If you're wondering why she's like this," she points her thumb at Ms. Gomez, "she had Gatorade for breakfast. Normally our hippie boss-
"I'm not a hippie, I'm not a hippie, I'm not a hippie." Gomez interrupts Shelby with her singing.
"Normally, she drinks green tea and eat social club crackers for breakfast. Anything other and she's crazy for the rest of the day. It's weird, but you'll get used to her."
"Why are there stuff animal in the computer chairs?"
"She makes us put them there so she won't feel lonely when we're out for breakfast and lunch."
"She doesn't leave the office for breakfast or lunch?"
"She doesn't leave the level period. She packs a meal bag from home so she doesn't eat from the cafeteria either."
I just nod at all this information I'm receiving about my new boss. Now, I know not to bring her coffee in the mornings.
"I'll show you around."
She guides me through the office level, giving me tips and showing me my work space. My cubicle is a nice size for me to maneuver around.
"Do you have any questions? This is the end of the tour."
"This may sound silly, but what company is this?"
"Junology, the new logo is being designed by our art and design team so there weren't any signs up. Sorry about that."
I froze. I completely shut down.
"Nooo!!!!!" I exclaim.
