“You know each other?” Chloe asked, switching looks from Ellie and me.
“Y---eah,” I didn’t know if I should tell them or not.
My flat mate put his tray on our table and sat down beside Daniel. I never took my eyes off his face.
“Okay if you aren’t going to stop looking at me like that, I might melt,” he joked. If I weren’t so shocked, I would have laughed at it. No, I would have rolled my eyes, actually. But I just stared.
“Okay, how did you two meet?” Chloe pointed her index finer out at Ellie and me.
“She moved in my flat last night,” Ellie said plainly.
“What?” Daniel asked. There was a surprise in his voice but I knew there was also a laugh there.
“Elliot is your flat mate?” Chloe asked me.
“Elliot?” I asked her, finally taking my eyes off of the beautiful boy’s face.
“Yeah. Him,” she nodded towards the guy in front of me. “Elliot,” she said again.
Oh so that’s why Mr. Simons called him Ellie. Elliot = Ellie.
“Not Ellie?” I turned to him. I saw his jaw clenched.
Then Daniel started laughing. Like a full-blown stomach laugh. I also noticed how Chloe wanted to laugh but was trying to conceal it. I didn’t understand why though.
“Nobody calls him Ellie anymore. Not after most of the people here mistaken it as his gay name,” Chloe said, laughing. Elliot shot his eyes at her and she immediately shut up. His eyes did look scary.
I found that weird though. A gay name? How would people even associate a guy like Elliot with the term, gay?
“Anyway,” Chloe cleared her throat. Daniel was still trying to hold his laugh. “It was a relief to find out Elliot was your flat mate and not some other dude out there,” she added.
I didn’t say anything back and just stared at her. She ruffled my hair and started laughing again, “You look so lost! Isn’t that great? Your guy flat mate wasn’t a complete stranger after all!”
“Yeah well you might have to adjust though. He tend to have a lot of mood swings,” Daniel whispered. Elliot just lightly shook his head and rolled his eyes at him. Did I see a little smile there? He barely talked.
“Well he only became like that only after Olivia left,” Chloe rolled her eyes. Elliot’s body suddenly stiffened and I saw Daniel shot his eyes at Chloe, mouthing, shut up.
Oh, there was something fishy. I wondered what it was. But I thought it was too soon to get myself mixed up with their issues. I was still the new girl, after all.
Chloe scooted near me and whispered in my ear, “This was great but we should probably keep this whole flat mates thing a secret. Or else, half the population of girls in this Academy might murder you.” She winked at me. What the?
Turned out Elliot was pretty popular. I mean, not only in the Music Division but also in the entire Academy. It wasn’t something to be surprised about though. He was inhumanely attractive and the guy freaking plays three musical instruments: the piano, the guitar, and drums. Not to mention he also had the vocals. Basically, he was the resident heart throb/super-out-of-my-league guy in the campus.
I wouldn’t even be surprised if he had a fans’ club. Girls constantly glanced at our direction during lunch that it was too distracting. Add their squeals and giggles to that and I was almost proud of myself I survived lunch. But that didn’t change anything. He was still the snobbish boy who I had to deal with everyday. Well, at least for the next week.
I was so happy I made new friends but Elliot’s popularity wasn’t something I really didn’t need in my life. Daniel was pretty popular too, yes, but his was just the right amount. Elliot, on the other hand, oh my goodness I don’t know how I’d explain it. Ever since he showed up for lunch and I ended up sitting with the three of them, girls just constantly looked or stared at me whenever I was walking around the campus by myself. So much for the cafeteria being the social place.
I hadn’t survived my first week yet but I had already heard whispers and received constant blank stares from random girls. I wished those weren’t blank stares, actually. I would have known what they were thinking.
I had no idea what the hell was happening until that one time when I was inside a toilet cubicle and two random girls went in the restroom, talking about some sort of gossip.
“Who is that girl anyway? Sitting with Elliot’s crew at lunch,” the first girl snorted. I could tell her eyes just rolled.
“I heard her name was Bobby Stevens. A transferee from America,” the other girl replied. I was sure she rolled her eyes too.
Now where are they getting all these information?
“Why is she sitting with them anyway?” There was pure annoyance in their voices.
“I heard she and Chloe were in the same class and they were seatmates. Then Chloe invited her since she was new. I also heard they came form the same city in America.”
What the hell? Is there some sort of paparazzi in this campus?
“Oh, Chloe. She’s too nice.”
“That’s why she’s with Daniel.”
“Ugh. That Bobby. Who does she think she is? The new Olivia? Please.”
“Yeah. As if she could just replace Olivia.”
“I know right? Olivia matched Elliot perfectly. Too bad she transferred.” The girl probably pouted. “Or not,” she added. Then they both started laughing like total bitches.
“Ugh REALLY. She has to know her place. Nobody just sits with Chloe, Daniel, and Elliot.” The other girl added before they left.
I survived my first day. I thought I was going to survive the rest of the year after that. Maybe I thought wrong.
Did I just single-handedly become friends with the cool kids in town? Damn. Seriously. Am I in high school?
