The Strange Mystery Girl

Chapter 4

"Alright! I want everyone to partner up and practice hand to hand combat. I know you've already done this and I've seen your scores. I just want to see you do it. To see where to put everyone for the next expedition." Commander Erwin yells.

"Hai!"

I kinda just wander around. I walk up to Sasha to ask her to be my partner, but she's already with Mikasa.

I then spot Jean. "Hey! Jean, want to be partners?" I ask.

He shrugs. "Sure." He then starts to smirk. He probably notices my small build, thinking I'll be easy to beat. Well, he's wrong. 

We get into a fighting position and he makes the first move. He swings a fist at my face, but I block it. I stumble a bit, I didn't expect him to use so much force. I'm so focused on holding his fist back, I barely block his other fist coming at my stomach. I'm now holding both his fists back. I start to slide back on my feet. He'll overpower me. I can't let him do that.

I quickly let go of his fists and duck, somersaulting through his legs. I quickly get up and kick his knee. He falls to the ground. I then take his arm and pin him. I grunt, trying to hold him down, but he's way too strong. I feel my arms weakening as he tries to get up. I quickly release one of his arms and replace the hold with my foot, I'm practically sitting on him now.

I use my free hand to stuff his face in the dirt. I hear a muffled sound. "Surrender, Jean!" I yell through gritted teeth. I lift his head and see he has a broken nose and is gasping for breath.

"Never! Not to a girl." He growls and tries to get up again, but I push his head back down into the ground, suffocating him once again. 

He's still struggling after about 30 seconds, me being afraid I'll kill him, let him go and distance myself. 

He rolls over on his back, coughing and trying to catch his breath. I take this chance to kick him in the stomach. He coughs more. "Okay! Fine! I surrender." Jean finally yells, giving up.

I smile in triumph. I won my first match here! I walk over to him and stick out a hand. "Are you okay?" I ask, out of breath.

He just slaps my hand away from him and gets up on my own. "I'm fine. I don't need your help." He then walks away. 

"What a great sportsman," I mumble.

"He's usually like that, F/n. He's just too prideful." Armin chuckles behind me.

I turn to him. "Hey, Armin."

"Your skills are really good. Where did you learn them? I actually don't recognize you from the training we did before joining the scouts."

"Oh, um, well, my brother trained me. He has connections through the ranks and got me to skip the training." I lie.

Armin nods. "Well, we should probably get going. It's almost lunch."

I nod and walk with Armin to the dining hall.

"Mikasa is too rough when training! She was so close to breaking my arm!" Sasha whines as she eats her lunch.

I was about to skip getting food again but felt someone looking at me. I turned around and Levi was glaring at me. He raised an eyebrow and nodded his head in the direction of the food trays.

I look away quickly, grabbing a tray and speed walking toward my table. 

"Do you not remember to not partner with Mikasa, Sasha? She won't go easy on you just because she's your friend." Eren shrugs, eating a spoonful of soup.
