The Accident

Chapter 1

  It's been almost nine years since the day the Fentons moved to Middleton. Since that time Jazz now 16 is a straight A student; that has cemented her decision on the path of psychology usually using her parents and her brother Danny as guinea pigs and source material for her own studies. Danny who is currently 13, and turning 14 after the first week of summer, is the captain of the boys middle school soccer team. Which is not as surprising considering his mother drilled karate and ninjitsu to the Fenton siblings saying it is needed to fight and hunt ghosts. As well as being a straight A student, which was not that hard considering since he was six he has been helping his parents create their weapons and tools, as well as dreaming to be an astronaut.

  Now today was an exciting day for Danny considering it was his last day of middle school. But for his parents, today was an especially important day because today was the day where all their research would come to fruition. Even Danny understood that his parents had built a very strange machine. It was designed to view a world unseen. What his parents dubbed the ghost zone. His parents had gathered Danny and Jazz first thing that morning to take them to the basement that was remodeled into their new lab, to turn on the machine with them. As they had gathered in front of a 7ft tall and wide hexagonal hole in the wall Dannys parents had turned on the power. At first the portal hummed then crackled with electricity then it went quiet and it resumed its inactive appearance. Much to his parents dismay, they realized it didn't quite work then his folks just quit.

  Then Danny decided to take a look inside of it. After his parents went upstairs followed by Jazz, who was trying to comfort them, He went to his locker in the lab to put on his gear which consisted of a mostly white hazmat suit with a black collar with black forearm length padded gloves that covered forearm guards to protect himself due to many of his dads experiments tended to blow up before working properly. As well as black elbow pads and mid-calf steel toed boots due to his dad dropping his heavy experiments or, more often than not, because of his dad stepping on his feet. As well as black knee pads for whenever he has to crawl under an experiment. And last but not least he put on his half-mask respirator[1] due many explosive experiments ejecting ectoplasm everywhere and he would rather not have the joy of eating ectoplasm ever again.

  After gearing up he headed to the portal intending on first investigating to see if he could find a visible problem before he got his tool kit. Then Danny stopped and went to the computer terminal to contact Wade, a 12 year old genius who already graduated college, to get his input and bounce ideas off each other. As the call was connecting; Danny was heading back to the portal when he heard Jazz calling his name and letting him know that their parents went out to clear their minds.
 
  "Jazz, I'm still in the lab!" as Danny yelled back. "I won't be going to school today. Wade and me are going to see if we can find out what is wrong with the device and possibly fix it."

  "Are you crazy?!" Jazz yelled back as she began to go back into the lab "Do you even know what your doing?"

  "Well, I am the one who has the most knowledge of our parents tech," replied Danny as he turned around with his back to the portal. "and I am not doing it alone. I am going to have Wade help me." Just as Danny finished his sentence, Wade appeared on the computer screen still dressed in his pjs yawning.

  "Morning, so what do you need help with Danny?" Asked Wade as he saw the lab through his screen, with Danny's back to a hexagonal hole in the wall just as Jazz walked into view. "No way, is that the portal!" As Wade's voice hitched in excitement.

  "Well, its supposed to be but it didn't turn on." Replied Danny

  "Ah, so you need my help to run a diagnostic to see were it went wrong?" Wade guessed. Then Danny nodded his head in confirmation. "Alright I'll get started."

  "And I'll try to see if there are any visible anomalies from my end." Said Danny as he began to turn and walk into the inactive portal.

  "Danny!" Jazz began in a angry huff. "Why are you even trying to fix it? I thought you wanted them to give up this farce of ghosts too. Besides there are no such things as ghosts."

  "Jazz, you know that's not the point." As Danny spoke in a irate tone. "Besides you saw how heartbroken they looked. Don't you at least want to help them out? Not to mention their our parents they probably missed something simple." Then Danny placed his hand along the side of the portal as it got darker the farther in he went into the portal. Only to feel something give under his hand.

  The next thing Danny saw was a great big green flash and a pain, pain  like no other. It was as if his very molecules were being torn apart and being rearranged. Yet, for Jazz and Wade they saw Danny being consumed by a bright almost toxic green flash. Then they heard a horrible scream that they knew came from Danny. For all three of them it felt as if an eternity had passed. Then the portal stabilized into a haunting murky green glow that swirled, and with it Danny's scream ended. As Jazz and Wade stayed silent and still due to shock and horror. Til they saw someone step out in the same gear as Danny but with an inverted color scheme. The person had snowy white hair tanned skin and when he opened his eyes they glowed a toxic green.

  Then he spoke and his voice held a haunting echo. "Jazz..."
