It didn't take long for me to settle in. The cabinets were provided and I just put the photos and books on the top. The letter Cody wrote me was in a frame I had spare.

"PDA! PDA!" Mitch screamed from downstairs. I walked out and saw Mitch yelling at a girl and Jerome. The girl was gorgeous, long dark brown hair, styled with the same scene fringe mum had.

"Ginger. That's Maddy. Maddy, this is my girlfriend ginger." Jerome introduced.

"Nice to meet you Maddy." Ginger smiled, her baby blue eyes fluttering.

"The pleasure is all mine." Tears swam around in my eyes, before one fell.

"Are you alright Maddy?" Jerome stood to comfort but I had already turned around. I ran upstairs to my room, away from happy families and loving couples. Why couldn't Duncan and I be like ginger and Jerome? I looked over at a picture of Cody and I at the beach. We were smiling.

•{Flashback}•

My feet are covered in sand, and we only just got here. I'm constantly watching my older brother Cody.

"Chill out Mads, what's wrong?" He smiled.

"I'm worried that if I don't watch where you're going, I'll lose you. Like, one minute you're here and the next you're gone. I'm worried you'll forget me." I stated hopelessly.

"Maddy. Don't worry, I could never forget you." He squeezed my shoulders.

"Bu-"

"I won't go home without you." He hugged me before running off without me.

•{flashback over}•

"Won't go home without you. Won't go home without you." I mumbled to myself for a while.

"I asked you to stay, but you didn't listen. Yeah you left before I had the chance to say..." I sang quietly to myself.

I finished the song I had been quietly singing under by bed for the past five minutes, changing the lyrics to suit my life. It made me just a bit upset. I'm right, this won't be home without you Cody.

"Maddy, please open up! I don't know what's wrong! If you tell me, I will be able to fix it!" Mitch screamed at me through the door. I've been asleep underneath my bed for about an hour, but he woke me up. It's 8am, which actually begs the question, what were Mitch and Jerome doing at Starbucks at 6 in the morning?

"I'm fine! Leave me alone!" I yelled back.

"Who's in there?" An unfamiliar voice mumbled through the door.

"My friends sister. She won't come out." Mitch answered

"Sister? She's female?" The voice asked. Well, apparently, so are you miss voice.

"Uh-huh. I don't know what upset her though. One minute she was happy, the next she's sat in her room for an hour." A sad sigh escaped with his words.

"Let me try Mitch," she whispered, but it was loud enough for me to hear.

"Hello? Maddy? That's her name right?" I assume Mitch nodded because she continued. " my name is Katie, I'm one of now three female residents here. I thought I'd understand better than Mitch what you're going through. Can you let me in so we can talk?"
