21. Hurtful Goodbyes

(Hey, everyone. I'd just like to make a quick shout out to my sister and one of my biggest inspirers; @Ikena_aloha. She means so much to me and though we are complete opposites in the house, she brings out to best in me and I couldn't ask for a better sister.

I stood in shock, taking in the faces of all the employees that I have worked with- Kena included- Martin, Austin, Jackson, and no Frances.

A smile broke away on my face as Edward whispered 'surprise' from behind me.

"This is where you were going when you said you'd see someone tonight?" I asked him.

He ushered me towards the crowd as he nodded. "You didn't think we'd all let you leave without saying goodbye, right?"

Kena took me into her arms and squealed in amusement. "Long lost sister, huh?" She asked before pulling away.

"Creepy, isn't it?" I laughed.

"Totally!"

I was pulled into a massive amount of other hugs from Austin to Jackson to the twelve other employees who had shown up that I barely spoke to, but they seemed nice enough. I was wished a safe flight and a happy time in England.

I'm not sure how much time had passed when everyone started making their snack plates from the small table farthest away from the water, but at this time I parted away from the crowd and walked over to the edge of Donnie's tank. His head popped out of the water almost immediately.

"Hey, big boy." I sighed, seating myself down close to the edge with my legs crossed. "How you doing?"

He hummed seconds after I paused. I reached my hand out over the water and he pressed his nose right up to it, leaving it there for a long moment before settling back down into the tank. He began to whine.

"I'm gonna miss you, too."

"You know, thinking you can understand animals is a purity sign of 'you're going crazy'." I turned around to see Kena and she sat down next to me, her words causing us to giggle. To our surprise, Donnie still waited where he was. "He's an amazing creature. Yet very mysterious. Like boys."

I chuckled at her true statement and nodded, taking a sip from my water bottle that was sweating from the cold confines within the plastic. I leaned my head against Kena's shoulder and shut my eyes.

"Thank you for all of this."

"It was all Edward's idea." She confessed. "That sexy man sure is something."

"Yeah, he is."

"Talking about me?" Austin asked from behind us. We both turned around, but I rolled my eyes at his cockiness.

"Not you sexy man, Edward sexy man." Kena corrected, patting the ground on the side of her, opposite of me. He took a seat, watching Donnie bob in and out of the water.

"He hasn't been seen since we all got here. He was just rushing around his tank the entire time." Austin announced, slinging an arm around Kena's shoulders.

"He's not very fond of people." I answered.

"Oh."

We stayed silent for a bit, listening to the blur of conversations behind us but keeping our eyes glued to the magnificent creature in front of us.

"So, you and Edward, huh?" Austin asked, leaning forward to peek around Kena.

"What about us?"

"It's so obvious that he likes you, Marley." Kena scoffed.
