Emma's P.O.V

"No matter what happens, get this damn door open, grab whatever is inside, and then come save me," Ella commands as she releases her grip on my wrist.
"Ella, what are you doing?" I ask, but she doesn't respond, instead, she pulls out of my tight grip, and before I can do anything she turns her invisibility off, and puts her hands in the air. I looked around at the other girls confused but none of us dare say anything. Instead, we just wait until the guards finish their scan of the room. I knew Ella was using her power to make sure we weren't detected, which would have been a lot easier if she had just done it before, but I know she is scared to use her powers. After the guard slaps a set of handcuffs on Ella's wrists and drags her out of the room I let out the breath I didn't even realize I was holding in.
"Is she stupid or something? She could have gotten us all killed!"  Jane shouts in frustration. Before she even realizes it Kate's hand slaps over her mouth to silence her.
"Jane shut up you're gonna get us caught," Kate says, the annoyance present in her voice.
"Okay how about we stop bickering and come up with a plan," I say dismissing the both of them as I bring up the map on my arm. I quickly find our location and look at the room next to us only to find out it is simply a storage room.
"Before Ella let herself get caught she said we need to get into that room no matter what," I say while looking up at Kate and Jane.
"What is it?" Jane asks
"It is just a storage room," I say while sorting through my thoughts. "Which is why it's exactly the room we are looking for," I add while staring off into space.
"Emma why in the world would we be forced to break into a military base just to go into a storage room?" Kate asks sarcastically.
"Because it's the perfect cover-up." I say "Just think about it, they wouldn't keep the thing we need laying in the middle of a room, it would be in a vault or a safe, nobody would ever think to look in a storage room. I am positive it's in that room, and so was Ella." I add
"It does make sense." Jane agrees while nodding her head slowly.
"Even if you two are right, how the heck are we supposed to get in there? It's blocked off by a huge iron door that would definitely trigger an alarm if anything were to happen to it." Kate looks at us as if we have just said the craziest thing in the world.
"We're gonna have to go underground again and come up with a way to open that safe without being detected." I simply say. "If we are detected though, we better be prepared for a fight," I add looking a little scared. "But before any of this, we need to find Ella," I say sternly while looking at the girls, they just nod while looking me directly in the eye. I bet they can tell I'm worried but I don't care. I can't stand the thought of what could happen to her. She's my best friend and it's my responsibility to make sure she stays safe.
"We need to split up. I know it will be scary but we will cover more ground this way." I say as I give them an apologetic look. I tap a few buttons on my arm and do the same to each girl.
"This lets us see each others location, if one of us finds her hit the blue button in the top left corner, it will highlight your location and alert us that you found Ella after one of us finds her we need to meet back here as soon as possible," I explain. "When we are all here we get the box then immediately head to where Ella is and save her." I bark the orders at them. I begin to feel bad as the two of them turn around to start searching.
"Guys?" I question and they both face me again, "Please be safe I don't want anything to happen to either of you." I say while looking them in the eye. "I love Y'all," I say as my southern accent suddenly becomes audible. It's obvious that they both hear it because their faces light up like they usually do when that happens.
"I love y'all too," Kate says mocking my accent with a hint of humour in her voice before she starts giggling.
"I'll let it slide this time," I say while playfully rolling my eyes at the girls. With that, I turn and jog out of the room leaving two of my closest friends standing there giggling like school girls. When I reach the end of the hall I stop to look at my map quickly before making a left and jogging down another long, dimly lit, cold hallway. She couldn't have gone far. Think Emma, if I were them where would I take an intruder? I take a look at my map again and head for a room that is labelled as a briefing room. As I come closer to the room I begin to get a bad feeling in my stomach. She's in there. I can feel it. When I finally make my way to the door I softly lean my ear against it as I strain to hear something. This door is pretty thick but I have a strong feeling she is in here. I stand there for about a minute until I finally hear her. I knew it. God, I really hope she's okay. I quickly mark the room on my map and sprint back to the room where we broke in. The sooner we all get back to the room the sooner we can save her. After what feels like forever I finally make my way inside and wait for the other girls. As I'm waiting for them I try to think of how to break into the vault without being detected. I suppose we could use our powers even though it would be very tiring. Suddenly I'm snapped out of my thoughts when Jane and Kate jog into the room out of breath. We all stand there for a while, while the two of them catch their breath.
"We have to use our powers, obviously it won't be as simple as me melting the door open but it's simple enough," I state. "Jane all you have to do is use your power to tunnel the safe out of the wall, once that is done, Kate you have to use the air in here to keep the wires in place until I melt the door and grab the box. Once it's in place just fill the hole back in with the dirt that was taken out from around it and we get out of here as fast as possible." I explain the plan to them as if this is the most important thing anyone in history has ever done.
"Jane once you're done your part, keep watch at the door and take out anyone you see," I say while looking her dead in the eye. She gulps and forces herself to nod. We do a quick sweep of the surrounding area and return back to the room.
"Kate keep watch while we dig into the other room," I say as I watch Jane begin to tunnel underground. Kate walks out and stands by the door as she switches her focus between the hallway to Jane and I. As soon as we tunnel to the other room I use my power to burn a hole in the floor, and we all climb in the storage room.
"Nobody touches anything other than the safe we don't want to trigger any alarms," Kate says and we both nod in agreement. Jane starts to move the earth from around the safe. When all of it is gone Kate holds the wires in place as Jane and I slowly pull the safe out of place and I begin to melt the door. I only melt the hole wide enough for the box to fit through. Once I retrieve the box, Jane helps me put the safe back in place then puts the dirt back around it as if nothing ever happened. Once we're done, we crawl back to the other room and leave to find Ella.
"Kate, Jane, find the exit I can take care of Ella," I say as we continue to jog down the hallway to the room Ella is being kept in. They just nod and make a right when I turn left. I get the familiar feeling of worry in my stomach as I inch closer to the room where my best friend is being held, prisoner. After what feels like forever, I finally reach the room and my nerves stir up again. I have to get to her. I have to save her, I think to myself right before I kick a panel on the wall and it bursts open, I emerge from the cloud of smoke only to see something I never thought I would see before. She is so pure, even with this darkness running through her, I never thought she could be so dangerous. She can't kill him, it would destroy her, but how can I stop it? It's like everything is going in slow motion, I can see her head slowly start to turn towards me. And I do the only thing I can think of. I reach out to her. I can feel the fear on my face, but it is not for me, it's for her because she is seconds away from becoming a murderer. When she turns I see something that scares me even more. Her eyes are bright blue, it's like they are glowing, and for a split second, I see something different. Something that is not my best friend, but something evil, living inside of her, and corrupting that sweet child that I became friends with. For anyone else, they might think this is self-defence, but I know her. I know that she would never do something to hurt anything. If this was the real her she would have never sacrificed herself to take the pain away from us, no this is not her at all. I can see her trying to fight it as she sees me, her face falling with confusion, and her eyes returning to their different colours. I know how dangerous it is for her mask to be down, I don't care, it must have come off when her stone started to take over. Her usual smile fades away, and her eyes are so full of concern that I know she is back. I know she can fight the darkness that has been put inside of her as she stumbles back, and I grab her arm, relieved that the best friend I have is safe with me at last.
