I land on the roof without a sound, and Emma does the same just seconds after. My levitation thing is really coming in handy I will give myself that. I almost laugh thinking about my old classmates would bicker about how flying was useless. A couple of feet away from us is a glass roof. I point to it, and Emma gives a curt nod. We sneak over to it, and I take a quick glance over. What I see below is a room full of desks, like the ones that you would find in an office, but it is empty. I take a longer look and still find that nobody is inside. Emma shrugs and makes a breaking motion with her hands. I shake my head and wave my hands in the air. I then point to myself and do a waving motion. She nods approvingly. I press my hands in the glass and feel the energy pulse through my hands until the glass silently disintegrates into nothing. She claps her hands silently, and motion for me to take a bow, which I do. It's hard not to laugh, but we have to stay quiet. We both drop into the darkly lit hallway and look around. Nothing and nobody is the first things we see. What is going on? One would think this place would be packed. Emma and I lightly step around until we come to a long hallway. Emma signals we need to split up, but I shake my head no.
"That's what happens in horror movies," I remind her seriously, risking the whisper. She covers her hand to her mouth but I can hear the suppressed laugh between her teeth. I motion we should go right; deeper into the enemy base is the only thing that makes the most sense so we walk that way. We walk around, checking every room we come across. Again nobody is there. When Emma steps into a room I follow her, thinking we have found it, but instead she holds up three boxes and shoves them into my hands. I hold them up and realize they are pregnancy tests. I tilt my head to the side and give her a look she cannot see but can feel. She just shrugs and tucks them into her suit. Her suit covers them like the rest over her body as we begin to check empty rooms again. We are there for almost an hour when I get nervous. It's not right. There should be people here. I am starting to sense a trap when I hear Andrew's voice in my ear.
"Two lefts then a right. The second door on the left," he whispers and Emma and I both begin to walk towards where he told us to go. We don't say anything or question it, we just go. When we walk into the room I just miss the punch.
"Oh sorry, Ella!" Frost says quietly laughing a little. "Thought you were a guard." He shakes his head. "Look at this." He takes us over to a bookshelf. I am only just realizing we are in a library. He pulls a green book our of the wall. There is a click and then the shelf opens.
"Horror movie," I repeat to Emma who nods. I can almost see her smiling through her mask. We walk through the doorway that closes behind us, and I spot Andrew tapping wildly on a keyboard. I walk over and put my hand on his shoulder. He takes a second to look to his left and kiss it before diving back into whatever computer mastery he is doing.
"I think we need to get out of here," Emma says after a minute of silence.
"We found the computer didn't we?" Frost asks, seeming amused.
"And did you notice how little people there were to stop us?" Emma asks, raising her voice a little.
"Yeah I get it, but let's get what we need and then we can go," he replies, his voice also louder. My stomach begins to turn again and I am worried I am going to throw up, so I walk over to the corner of the room. I take my mask off and place one hand over my stomach. Then, I'm too late to realize it's my instincts, not my stomach as the ceiling comes crashing down on top of us. Before I know it, Andrew's body is on top of me as the roof falls onto his back, knocking him unconscious. With a swift moment, my hands go up, and I hold it slightly above us. My mask can't go back on. I need both hands to hold up the crashing pieces of the building that is falling onto the slab of concrete above us. Suddenly I am screaming.
"Andrew!" I begin to cry as he lays on top of me, not moving. Emma and Frost and both knocked out as well. They lay a few feet away from me, under the protection only I can give them. I touch my cheek to Andrew's hair and begin to cry as my arms shake to hold everything up. Maybe levitation is hard after all. "Please wake up, please, please," I am begging through sobs into his hair. I can feel something warm drip onto my neck, and the salty smell of blood fills my nose. I cry hard, begging and pleading as loud as my voice can go. I feel my stone give a pulse, and I grit my teeth. With all the force I can muster I shove the building up above us long enough for me to create a black hole that everyone's limp bodies fall through.
