Chapter 2 Bonds and Struggles

Tails: *shocked* No... this can't be real... Sonic....

    Tails heart was completely shattered, his brother was there completely helpless in bed, dependent of life support. He looked very frail and small. Seeing him like this and not like his lively and energetic self was very heart wrenching to see. Tails was doing his best to keep his cool but his tears betrayed him.

    Shadow saw the young fox and he couldn't help but to feel emphatically towards him. He knew how much Sonic means to Tails and himself, so he could relate greatly. Shadow gave Tails a pat on the back to try cheer him up and letting him know that things will turn out ok in the end. With tears on his eyes, Tails faced Shadow and hugged him for comfort which the black hedgehog returned to him.

Shadow: *comforting Tails* Is ok buddy, everything will be ok in the end. I promise. Believe me, that hedgehog is tough and too stubborn to die and we will be here,... waiting for him.

Tails: *feeling a bit better*  ... Ok, you're right Shadow.   (Approaches to Sonic's bed) Sonic is strong and will get over this. You hear me brother? (Almost tearing up) We'll be waiting for you to come back to us, so you better not try anything funny on us you dummy!

Sonic: *unresponsive* ...

Shadow: *slightly upset* ... Is ok Tails, come buddy, it think is enough for you in one day. Let's go, we'll come back tomorrow first thing in the morning.

    He gave Tails a friendly pat on the back and slowly headed out of the room, though the black hedgehog didn't leave without taking one last look on the poor blue hedgehog. It was already late at night and both were exhausted from the sudden events. Shadow offered to take Tails to eat before taking him home, after all he just wanted to make sure that the young fox was ok. Him, on the other hand, wasn't feeling so great; he was utterly destroyed by the sight of the blue hedgehog, he never on his life saw Sonic this bad before.

   Shadow was struggling to keep is head and spirit up, after all he didn't want to show any weaknessdf to the young fox as he needed the support at the moment. He wanted to set an example to Tails, that no matter what happens everything would be ok in the end as long as you didn't gave up on the things that you love.

   Tails accepted the offer to go out and eat with Shadow, so they both walked to a near by food establishment. They both settled for burgers and some fries. As Shadow was eating his meal  he couldn't help but stare at the young fox who has barely ate anything, he just took some bites and left the rest practically untouched.

Shadow: *drinking soda* Not very hungry?

Tails: huh? Oh , is not that. I guess I can't stop thinking about my brother that's all.

Shadow: *compressive* I see.... I know how you're feeling but you need to eat at least something pal. I don't want you falling ill aswell, we need to take care of ourselves first in order to take care of others alright buddy?

Tails: I know Shadow... *sad* I guess it will take some time for me to adjust that's all.

Shadow: Um.... tell you what Tails. Would it make you feel better if I pick you up tomorrow morning to see Sonic, *giving a warm smile* I'll be there for both of you.

Tails: *slowly breaking a smile* Hehe, thanks Shadow. For having the title of an edge lord you're very caring and kinda like a paternal figure.

Shadow: *surprise and blushing* ...?!  I-I don't know what you're saying, I don't know such things you're speaking of.

Tails: *smiling* Hehe, you sure? You sound like someone  that does.
