The House

Been having this one frequently, so I'mma put it here.

Bath County, KY. A small secluded space just outside of Rowan. There is a town in Owingsville that hardly ever has any people coming through, with only three stop lights. There's a fork in the road, one side leading to that town, and the other leads to a fort. Across the road from this fort is an old broken down house. One with only one window and three existing doors. A front door, a back door, and one that leads to the very top of the house, the only way to get to it is an old rickety stair case in the back yard.

My family and I had moved in within a couple of days, not even bothering the top door, due to there being no key. Our landlord told us that something dwelled up there many generations ago, but hasn't shown any signs of life in a decade. One would say that it's dead, but others believe that the only thing keeping the beast at rest is the special lock on the door.

Every midnight, a howl can be heard from that room. But nothing emerges, making some think it's just the aching spirit of the beast, that had been long since forgotten.

When my family arrived on the premises a few days ago, we were warned about something that guards the house from dusk till dawn. But as long as the special lock remains on the door, neither the beast nor this guardian could emerge from the depths of their hollow prison.

That is, until today, my dad didn't believe the stories told to us by the landlord, taking a hacksaw up the creaky stairs, he attempted to break the lock. Then, as the lock broke, there was a low hiss and what sounded like a crocodile growl. Then, an ear piercing shriek erupted from that room, alarming my sister and I into frightened screams as we bolted for the front door. We get the door open, but stop in our tracks as a monstrosity with green scales a long snout and whipping tail turns to look at us with beety eyes that glow in the evening light and a grin that send shivers down our spines.

He slowly moves towards us, its oder making our eyes water and our stomaches churn. His scales shift with every movement it makes, walking on two legs like a human. My sister is whimpering as she stands stock still, looking white as a sheet, I can't deny that I probably looked the same way. It made a low hiss before getting on all fours and let out a loud roar, completely unlike what we heard the first time.

Making our way out, we jump into the back of the moving truck, our dad and brother's grabbing a shotgun or two from our vehicle. They shoot at something, and it elicits a loud ear piercing shriek again. Shaking in fear, my sister and I get our brothers and parents to come into the truck, shutting the door behind us.

Silence falls as we regain our composure, Mahayla is crying and Mom and Dad are screaming at each other, because my dad broke the lock in the first place. Suddenly, the truck rocked, making my sister Yelp in Surprise and hold onto me. A load metal sound was heard before claws broke through the thin truck sides, it began shaking the truck side to side, disorienting all six of us.

Another ear piercing shriek erupted from the house, before it was quiet again. The whereabouts of the reptilian creature was unknown. I stood up, looking through the new holes in the side of the wall. I watched in relief as the reptilian crawled into a hole that was once covered by a big wooden slab. But my relief was short lived as something bigger and much more grotesque appears in my line of sight, just yards away from the truck.

The creature looked to be seven to eight feet tall, covered with fur, smelt of something dead that made me want to hurl, and made a sound similar to purring. But this thing was not happy, it was not human, and was not real. It's just my worst nightmare.

It sniffed around for a few seconds before it's head whips around and our eyes meet. Then I woke up.
