We were led out of our cell, and walked down a long straight hallway. My boots clicked against the tiles. It was cold in the hallway, far to cold for me. I rubbed my hands together and crossed my arms. It had to be like 40° Fahrenheit, which is much too cold for me.
When I was a kid, I used to live in a town in Ono near the ocean, and it was warm, since our island, Inpar, is in the Tropic of Kinvi. The lowest it gets here is 20°, and that's rare. So, this hallway is cold.
I know I'm oversharing but I'm freezing.
We walked into a large room, and there was rows of chairs, and there was a large podium in the front. It looked kinda like a church. We were led into the first row, and told to sit down. I sat, and looked around.
It was a pale yellow room, a nasty color really, with no windows. The rows of chairs were wooden, and there were people sitting behind us.
A door opened to our right, the opposite of the door we came in from, and out walked Pyra, Twill, Glass, Ray, and McDaniel. I eyed Pyra suspiciously. She saw, and gave me a smug grin. She kept staring at me as she sat down.
"Alright, alright, this is not normal court because you," Jett pointed at us," your fate has already been decided. People of the audience, you may suggest punishments when this is over. Team 3, stay quiet, you may not defend yourselves, because we already know." Jett said. "Lets begin. Pyra, if you would come up and tell us what happened?" Jett called her up to the podium.
She stood there, and after a while, began.
"Well, it was truly horrible. We just got to the meeting site, and they were gone! We went back to tell McDaniel, and he had no idea that these criminals had taken our quest!" She stepped down, and walked to her seat.
Astrid stood up. "Thats not what happened at all! She...We... No!"
Jett walked towards her. "I thought I said you can't defend yourself, because the council of truth knows your lying!" He said in a sing song voice.
"No we're not!" She argued. Orion grabbed her hand, and she sat down.
"Alright, lets continue. Twill, your up!" Jett said with a hint of annoyance in his voice.
Twill walked up to the podium.
He tapped the microphone and said, "What Pyra said." And he walked back to his seat.
There was a moment of silence, and Jett was most certainly annoyed.
"Ok, anyone else have something to say because I just want to wrap this up honestly." Jett sighed.
I believe it was Ray who raised his hand, and walked up.
" I feel like I need to get the truth out there.." he started. "It is.."
Yes! I thought. He is going to get us out of this mess!
I glanced over at Pyra, and saw her giving Ray, or it might actually be Glass, a look of hatred.
"They did steal our quest, and they made fun of me and my twin, Glass!" He said, shaking.
"Oh? How so?" Asked Jett.
"Well..."
"You know what, I have honestly heard enough. I suggest the death penalty." Jett said casually.
There was a loud "No!" from the audience, and I swiveled around in my seat. Standing up in the last row of chairs was a man who looked like Orion with a beard. The brown fluffy hair, the blue eyes, they had to be related to Orion.
"That is my brother, I will not let you hurt a hair on his head!" He proclaimed. He turned to Orion. "When I got the letter to go to be a witness, I didn't know I'd be your witness." He joked.
"Yeah, I didn't think I'd end up here." Orion said to him.
"Oh by the way, Mom says that if you're not home for Aquila's birthday, you're dead."
"Yeah yeah, family reunion over, now, what is your name, sir?" Jett asked.
"Leo, sir." Leo responded. So that's Leo.
"Alright Leo, what punishment do you suggest?" Jett acted as calm as he could, but it wasn't enough.
"I don't know, can we let the team decide?" Leo was desperate to get Orion out of trouble and home, I could tell.
"Yeah ,whatever. Aryse, what do you suggest?"
I thought about the most mundane things we could do as punishment. You know, so we don't die.
"Clean the questing hall for a year?" I suggested.
"McDaniel, what do you think of that punishment?" Jett asked.
"Ummm, well, I think that that... that would be the punishment I gave to you after the government punishment, if you live, that is." He stammered.
"Alright, so that's a no, I'm going to go straight to who seems like the most brutal of the group to see what he thinks, so, Cylin, what do you think?" Jett asked, completely skipping over Orion and Astrid. I could tell Astrid was mad, so I put my hand on her shoulder. I've seen Orion calm her down like that, but it didn't work for me, because she swiped my hand away. When Orion did the same, however, she didn't care.
"I think we should kill Klaus," He stood up. There was a gasp from the audience.
"I mean think about it. He's been terrorizing Daem for 16 years. Since I was seven. I am now 22, and he is still in power, and no one has done anything to stop it! Let us try, and if we die, oh well!" He exclaimed.
"I, I agree with that." McDaniel whispered.
"No," Leo said, but the rest of the witnesses were nodding their heads.
Jett shrugged. "Ok."
"No! Don't do that! That's such a bad idea!" Leo was shouting. Jett shushed him.
I looked over at Cylin, who had a small grin on his face. The creepy kind, like he knew it was a bad idea. It was a bad idea. But hey ok, not my place to make a decision.
"Take then to the briefing room. The rest of you may go." Jett said. A few police officers walked in the doors and escorted us back into that cold, cold hallway.
