We were walked into a room several hallways away from the court room. The whole place was that nasty yellow color and cold, an unpleasant mixture. There were guards in front of us and behind us, making sure we didn't make a break for it. I personally wouldn't run, but I know Cylin might. And maybe Astrid.
When all of us had entered the room, they told us to sit on this bench built into the wall. We did, and I sat next to Cylin.
"Ok," one of the guards said, taking off his glasses. "We are in the briefing room. If this isn't the last time I see you, I'll be shocked. You know what your doing is a death wish, right?"
I was about to say no and politely ask for a refund or something, but Cylin just said something along the lines of "Get on with it, we know," and he continued.
"So, my name is Johsin, I give out government regulated quests. Any questions on why your here?" He paused. No one said anything, so he continued.
"Ok, you all have basic sword training, you all already have armor, we just give you food, a map, two tents, and a suicide pill. Any questions there?"
"Yes, why do we need a suicide pill?" Orion said, raising his hand.
"If you get captured by Klaus, which is almost inevitable, you take it. Boom, slightly painful death, but it's better than rotting."
"How dangerous is this guy?" Astrid questioned.
"Well I mean we don't know as of today, but he used to be very. I mean, he took over all of Daem. He hasn't made any attacks in the last 10 years, so we don't mess with him, which is why we are sending you, so we can see how strong he still is."
"Mkay, let's keep it going," Cylin waved his hand and leaned back against the wall.
Johsin just stared at him.
"What?" Cylin asked.
"Anyway," Johsin continued, "suicide pill dissolves in liquid, tastes like vanilla, and fills your lungs with blood basically. So you cough and stuff. Not a joke people."
I won't need that.
"Anyway, that's about it, let's go!" He said, and the guards stood us up. We walked out the door and back into the hallway. We were led all the way to the end, where a set of red double doors were. It did not go with the paint at all. I'm complaining a ton, I know, but it's because I wanted to be a home designer before I realized I would be so ridiculously poor in Ake if I did.
We went out the doors and there was a car. Not a nice car like the one we had came in, it was a roofless, doorless, white Jeep looking thing. That's when I also noticed we weren't in the city anymore. How big was this building?!
The sun was getting in my eyes as it was setting, and we hopped in the backseat of the Jeep with our bags. As we drove off, I saw the city skyline in the distance. It was beautiful, but sad because I knew we shouldn't have been leaving so soon. But Pyra had to go and trick us. How dare she.
After a few minutes, we got to the bridge separating the Capital and Ono. We drove on and stopped half way.
"Get your stuff and get out," The driver said. We did. It was a lot to carry, but we managed, even though Cylin didn't help. We crossed the bridge, and the driver reversed and drove away without a word. Rude.
We watched them go for a second, and then Astrid broke the silence.
"I'm not keeping this thing. Bad auras." She said, taking out the suicide pill and throwing it in the dirt. It bounced a little and settled.
"Yeah, I don't think we'll need it," Orion said, " but isn't this littering? Like, an animal could eat this and die."
Astrid shrugged. "Do you wanna bury it?" She asked. Orion and I nodded and Astrid started digging a hole with the toe of her boot. When it was deep enough, we dropped our pills in. I looked at Cylin expectantly.
"What? I'm keeping it, and you should too." He said.
"Nah, we don't need it. Your being ridiculous." Astrid said. "Come on, let's go!"
We all followed Astrid into the woods, and since she had grabbed the map, I was confident in her abilities to lead. Eventually, however, the sun went down and we had to stop. We got the tents set up easy, but it was really a tight squeeze for two people, so I chose to sleep on the grass to keep watch and because I didn't want to cram in with Cylin. It was rather uncomfortable, but I managed to get to sleep.
