Rainy Day

For some people, rainy days were a joy because one get to nap in, or get to enjoy a cup of coffee from the comfort of their warm and dry sofa, or maybe read a book and get lost in time. Some people hate rainy days because...everything looked wet, gloomy and sad. Some people don't know what to feel even. Perhaps it depended on what they were doing at the moment. Or perhaps with whom they were with at the moment.

That was what Rambo felt during rainy days. He doesn't hate or particularly like the rain because he experienced both good and bad rainy day memories.

The waiter who took his order obviously was interested in him because after he served Rambo's coffee, Rambo found his LINE ID written on the paper napkin. Rambo smiled. Good thing he has decided to doll up a little today.

The café he was at now was actually a new place he found.

He has only been here once, now being the second time. He liked the place. It was always quiet with patrons doing their own thing, getting lost in their own worlds.

The last time he was here, it was also a rainy day. Rambo remembered staring out the window watching the rain drops hit the glass and flow away. It was really calming.

And he was here to feel it again. The last time a rainy day was a fond memory for Rambo was when he and Pree played under the rain while they are out camping.

Rambo smiled again to himself as that old scene replayed himself. He was the one who coaxed his then newly found boyfriend Pree to go camping. They only managed to get the tent up when it started raining heavily. Pree had wanted to stay in the tent until the rain stopped but Rambo, always the more mischievous one dragged him out to play under the rain. The rain continued falling long after they stopped making love.

Rambo took a sip of his coffee. The clouds expelling the rain water today looked grey. There were no thunder. Rambo preferred thunder-less rainy days. Less scary. Like that time. While that time happened a long time ago, years ago actually, Rambo thought he could still hear the thunder roared as he cried and walked out of Pree's life. Rambo got sick after that night too. Down with high fever for a few days and couldn't even bring himself to eat. The world shattered for Rambo then.

Thank god Serpent, the unlikely f-buddy turned platonic BFF took care of him. The following months, Rambo was in an auto-zombie mode. He barely recalled what he did. He only recalled crying and crying when attempts to get through Pree failed each time.

Then one day, while he was taking a shower, he heard the thunder from somewhere distant.

The first thing he thought of was Pree. Pree's handsome and gently smiling face. Rambo smiled to himself. Pree was in his life during those rainy days, bad and good. Rambo knew, even if Pree isn't in his life now, he will always be part of Rambo's memories. Rambo felt warm thinking like this. He doesn't even know when he started thinking like this. All he knew now is he is at peace, with himself.

He must have dozed off because he felt a gentle tap on his shoulder. Rambo stirred a little, yawning, his eyes still heavy from his nap.

"Sorry sir, but we are closed for the day," the waiter who woke him, his voice was really deep. Pree's voice was always a more mellow tone and sounded much gentler. Taking a moment to gather his thoughts, Rambo looked out the window to see the rain's stopped. Time to go home.

"Geez, thanks for waking me up. Am I the last one here?" Rambo asked, trying to start a conversation. After all, Rambo isn't disinterested to get to know this waiter. He was cute enough.

"Actually no, the co-owner is here. He's by the corner couch. He's asleep too but him being the co-owner, I don't think I should disturb him just yet, at least until I close up and start cleaning up," the talkative waiter explained.

"Anyway, thank you...umm...for waking me up. I'll...I'll get going," Rambo stood up and about to leave when the waiter stopped him, handing him the napkin with number he forgot. Rambo smiled and took the napkin with him, paid at the counter and left. Nope. Maybe the hot waiter is not for him after all.

The waiter watched until his favorite cute customer left before locking the front door and started cleaning the place. When he was done and wanted to excuse himself, he approached the sleeping figure at the corner couch. He gently shook the person.

"P'Pree?" the waiter called out.

Pree gently stirred from his sleep and opened his eyes. Pree thought he felt the presence of someone he cared for a long time ago.Though he only saw his waiter.

Perhaps he felt wrong.
