—- Sam's POV —-
The last thing I expected to wake up to was the inside of Leah's bed nest. I had just opened my eyes, the brightly coloured lights still shining above me, and noticed the picture Leah had been so protective over in front of me.
My immediate though was 'how the hell did I get in here' but I was still too tired to get up and question myself so I closed my eyes and tried to go back to sleep. The constant noise of the surrounding building made that hard though. The buzzing of the light box, the dripping of pipes on the left side of the wall and the faint sound of someone singing disturbed my attempt to fall back asleep so I peeled my eyes back open and lay staring at the picture for a moment.
I then dragged myself up into a sitting position and listened to the person singing, it wasn't anything spectacular but it was definitely good.
I soon realised that I just woke up and I probably look like shit. That mixed with the knowledge that Leah would be returning soon motivated me to scrape my already messy hair into an even messier short pony tail. A few strands from where my fringe use to be before I grew it out were too short to reach the back of my head so they instead splayed randomly across my face. I then set about getting changed and cleaning up a bit.
Having been separated from my usual routine, I definitely felt unsettled. I was use to the same thing every day and now that it was different I didn't know what to think of it.
The singing had gotten louder while I was getting dressed and just as I pulled a simple grey shirt over my head Leah walked in backwards through the fire escape holding two boxes of our usual weekly alcohol shipment."Morning bed head!" She grinned at me as she placed the boxes on the floor beside the door "sleep well?"
I nodded quietly, still too tired for human interaction.
"Well you better had, I gave up my nest for you!" She faked a pout and placed a hand in her hip "once you've woken up can you give me a hand bringing the boxes in?"
"Sure, just let me grab my shoes" I smiled at her and rose to my feet.
I looked up to say something else but she had already disappeared back through the door, singing as she went.
As I found my shoes and began tying one of the laces my mind drifted to the song she was singing. I couldn't put my finger on it but I was sure I knew it.
Before I knew it I had tied my shoes and was already walking outside, too caught up in my absurd thoughts to notice my own movements.
Leah was crouched down next to the boxes stroking the familiar calico cat that came stalking over here every now and then.
I cleared my throat to get her attention and she turned around slowly, not removing her hands from the cat."Shh, don't scare him off" she seemed very calm and collected. I wonder if she's bipolar or something "you wanna come stroke him too?"
I shook my head and went to pick up two of the boxes. That was all I could carry.
"I'll be back in a second." I looked up to question her but realised she was talking to the cat "I just need to take these in and then I'll grab you something to eat."
She stood and turned towards me, obviously noticing I was staring at her.
"Not much of a morning person are you? You've barely said a word since you got up" she picked up four boxes, two in each arm.
And can I just say, holy shit.I averted my gaze and shook my head again "no, I get words mixed up sometimes when I'm tired."
"Good to know, now let's get these boxes in before Mr.Paws over there gets even more hungry" she walked past me and backed into the door again to open it, then disappeared inside. I followed at my own pace.
"How'd I end up in your bed... nest thing?"
I heard her shuffle around a little while I bent down to drop the boxes.
"You, uh, you seemed uncomfortable so I offered to swap with you. You must've forgot or something" she averted her eyes while she spoke
"Alright then, sorry for stealing it" I straightened up and looked at her "and don't worry I left your stuff alone"
She gave me a lopsided smile "come on bedhead, let's get these boxes in"
