He was so, entirely, infatuated with her, his student. [Y/n] was a regular girl in his class, or so he thought on the first day of school. Yet the moment he laid his eyes on her, he couldn't think of anyone else.

He was a young teacher, and new to teaching in the school - or any school, for that matter. He was a caring and kind man who loved sharing his knowledge with others. From an early age had he decided that he would devote his life to teaching, and only teaching.

Yet here he was, three months into the course, and already sweating with every time he thought about [Y/n], the quiet girl in his class. Every moment of his dreams would involve an image of her.

Let's talk about the first day of school. He eyed her as she sat at the front of his class, next to another girl, and, unlike the rest of the class, the two students didn't say a word. [Y/n] took out her notebook, pencil case, and planner, and set them down on her desk before folding her arms in front of her on the desk and waiting patiently for the class to begin. He smiled; at least someone in the class would be organised.

The first lesson was chill. He spent the hour introducing himself and the course, opening up a fun quiz on the screen in the last ten minutes of class for everyone to enjoy. While everyone was playing, he watched the girl in the dim room. He couldn't help but be mesmerised as he watched her bite her lip, trying to remember which presidents were depicted on Mount Rushmore. He watched her answer almost all the questions with ease and speed.

During that lesson, he didn't realise that he was watching her. He didn't realise what effect she was having on him. And most of all, he didn't realise that she would be the one he would be thinking about for the entire year.

A week into the course and he would look at [Y/n] every lesson. When presenting to the class, he couldn't help but catch glimpses of her as she was watching him, taking down notes whenever needed. It seemed he only looked at two points when lecturing: the class and [Y/n].

It's not like she didn't notice. She did. And, it's not like she didn't care, oh, she did. He was an attractive young man; smart, and caring. But she knew that it was useless thinking about him. And that's why she tried not to. Tried.

Here he was, sitting in his office, thinking about her. He was supposed to be marking papers, but it ended up in such a way where he was leaned back in his chair with his tie loosened, red-faced. He just couldn't get her out of his mind. The image of her in her tight, mustard-coloured shirt and loose distressed boyfriend jeans made him curse himself for thinking this. He pictured her writing that essay that he was currently marking, hair pulled back in a ponytail, scribbling away at the paper so fast her chest swayed. Every once in a while she'd stop to reread her last sentence, flex her hand and stretch her fingers. He imagined her lithe digits wrapped around his -

A knock sounded at the entrance to his office. He was sweating by now, from thinking his dirty thoughts. Cursing himself once again, he voiced a quick "open" and quickly sat up and fumbled with his tie. [Y/n] stuck her head in the room.

'Speak of the devil,' he thought. 'Or the angel...'

"Hi, can I come in?" she asked. He nodded; he couldn't look her in the eyes. "I just wanted to ask why the answer to question 2 on the homework is A. I think C made more sense... could you explain it a bit more, please?"

"Y-yeah - take a seat." he gestured to the chair beside him. As she walked over, he could smell her scent - she smelled of sweet peppermint, and he got distracted for a second. As she sat down next to him, he was trying to focus really hard and looked at the paper blankly. [Y/n] pointed at the question and looked at him, concerned. "Are you okay? You seem to have a fever." she felt his forehead with the back of her hand and frowned slightly.

"Do I have a fever?" he asked.

"You're quite warm. Do you want to go home?"

He shook his head.

"Alright. You really should rest though," she stood up and opened the window, "and this is for some fresh air. Don't stay here for too long."

He mumbled, "you can ask me in class sometime."

She nodded and left.

He slumped back in his chair, cringing at how the interaction went. He was so pathetic, useless. Yet he did enjoy her attention, the way she was concerned. Almost led him to think she cared. Almost.
