What really is depression?
People describe it as a major depressive disorder that affects how you feel, how you act and basically how you view life as a whole.
Others say its a feeling of severe despondency and dejection that slowly creeps in the mind and sucks all the light that has been in your life and leaves you in a big dark black hole with no way out.
Basically they are both right but what they don't tell us is the severity of the condition, they just scratch the surface to avoid the whole talk as they feel it triggers parts of the brain and could cause severe relapses, if not utter dismay on the patients' side.
There are different types of Depression namely:
^Major Depression
^Persistent Depressive Disorder
^Bipolar Disorder
^Seasonal Affective Disorder(SAD)
^Psychotic Disorder
^Peripartum Depression (Postpartum)
^Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder( PMDD)
^Situational Depression
The most common types of depression amongst people include; Major depression,Bipolar Disorder, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder and situational Disorder.
There are different signs and symptoms that may alert you on whether you or someone close to you has Depression.
For Major depression the signs and symptoms might be weight loss or weight gain, Loss of interest in things that once made you happy, Insomnia, feeling agitated and/sluggish, trouble concentrating and making decisions and even thoughts of Suicide.
On the other hand, for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder which happens to women who are on their period cycle days, the symptoms would be irritability, adverse mood swings (which mostly happens to me by the way), fatigue, trouble in getting sleep and change in eating habits, anxiety and the most common sign, trouble in concentrating as we'd be in excruciating pain and agony (most of the time if not through out the whole period cycle).
In situational Depression or also known as 'Stress Response Syndrome' It may arise due to events that took part in our lives or are still taking part in our lives from the death of a loved one, Stress at work/school caused by an assignment that's due early, a divorce that left you scarred, finding out that your pregnant and your significant other hightailing out of your life to avoid the responsibility, even abuse whether it be emotional, physical and even verbal can cause depression to surface.
People out there point fingers because they don't know how else to react, they lack the understanding and what better way to act as if everything okay?? They blame everyone and everything around them as long as they still look perfect, fool everyone else and still look like a hero at the end of the day right! WRONG!!
Depressed people try to reach out, they try to let their pain out in exchange for love, understanding and even friendship. But unfortunately everything they try, they are judged, battered, bruised and they build layers on layers to protect themselves, they want to be loved just like everyone else.
They are seen as rejects in this 'perfect so called world' so what do they do, they try to fit in into this social hierarchy created. They pretend to be something they clearly are not and when they are alone, when the curtains are finally drawn down their true self crumbles down.
We are all human, we all make mistakes, we all deserve a second chance, a chance to live our lives the way we want to without having to look back at the past, at the past us, all I'm trying to say is Be the ear that listens, Be the voice that speaks out not breaks, Be the hands that comfort not abuse or point fingers and Be the figure that brings about comfort and not danger.

The next parts will consist of poems.
