Morning had arrived. And chittering birdsong could be heard from outside. But it did nothing to stir the peacefully sleeping child still resting upon her bed, nestled beneath the fleecey pink and white covers.
As the girl slept on, something crawled out from under her bed. Once the figure was completely out, they stood up and faced the bed. They softly smiled at the child before they placed a hand on her shoulder to gently shake her awake.
"C'mon sleepy-head. It's time to get up. You don't want to be late for school do you?"
The girl started to rouse as she slowly sat up on the bed. Yawning as she rubbed the sleep from her fluttering eyelids. When her eyes were fully opened she turned to see that the figure was a teenage boy. To which she gave a big smile.
"Good morning Lou!" She beamed. "Morning to you too Crystal." Lou replied, giving the girl a pat on the head. "Here. I got your outfit for the day laid out for you. Get dressed while I make some breakfast for you."
"Okay!" Crystal hopped off the bed and grabbed the clothes off the nearby chair as Lou was leaving. But just as he was going out the door, Crystal suddenly remembered something!
"Oh! Lou! Do you know what day it is?" She asked him. "Hmm... I don't know. What day is it Crystal?" He playfully answered with a mischievous smirk. "It's my birthday today, silly!"
"No." Lou spoke, feigning surprise. "It's that day already? How old are turning today?" Lou chuckled as Crystal started to count on her fingers. "Seven!" Crystal proudly announced, holding up seven fingers for him to see.
"Seven huh? Well aren't you a big girl now?" Crystal giggled. "Yep!"
Once Crystal was all dressed for school, she headed out into the kitchen just as Lou was getting some freshly-made, fluffy pancakes on a plate for her. "Here you go. Better eat them fast before the Old Crow wakes up and takes them." (A/N: He means the hired Nanny... Lol)
Crystal made quick work of the pancakes. And after grabbing her backpack, took Lou's hand and together they went out the front door of the Stairwell Estate to walk towards Crystal's school.
*Timeskip*
It was almost time for school to be over, and Lou was already on his way to pick Crystal up. He had bought something special for her birthday today and the thought of her bright smile upon opening her present made a smile appear on his face as well.
Only for that smile to disappear when he noticed something odd. Three suspicious-looking men were hiding a behind a corner of the school building.
Lou frowned. He didn't like the look of these men, or their smell for that matter. They reeked of alcohol and cigarettes, two scents that were in absolutely no way good around an elementary school.
So he decided to investigate. Lou quietly approached the men until he close enough so he could hear what their talking about, but far away enough so they wouldn't notice him.
"Gee. You really think the little gal be'd here Ralph?" The short, fat one asked the taller, more muscular one peeking around the corner.
"Of course she'd be here Carl!" Ralph replied, irritated. "The Boss said that Crystal Stairwell goes to this exact school, and if we can snag her. We'll make it big!"
"But how will we do that?" The third man who was bald asked. "Simple Joe, she's a little kid. All little kids are stupid. We'll just tell her we got some candy for her, and she'll be eager to come with us!" Ralph answered with an oily smirk.
Lou had heard enough. So these creeps were after Crystal were they? Not if he could help it! "Excuse me boys." Lou spoke out, startling the men as he made himself known. "But what exactly are you three doing?"
"Hey kid, can't you see we're busy here? Scram!" Ralph exclaimed, waving him off. "Yeah, this is grown-up business. Go run along like a good little boy!" Joe added. "What they said." Carl remarked, slightly chortling.
Lou didn't move from he was. Instead he crossed his arms and gave the three goons such a fierce glare, that even a grizzly bear would run away in fear of it. "I'm only gonna say this once, so listen good. I don't like what you punks are doing. So I suggest you leave. Right NOW." He practically growled at them. And though they could've just been imagining it. But the goons thought that they could see a slight hint of red in the boy's brown eyes.
"Uh... Guys..? ...Maybe we should do as he says." Carl whispered to the other two. "What!? Don't tell you're actually scared of this punk!" Ralph hissed back. "I don't know Ralph. I think Carl's got the right idea. Something about this kid give me the chills..." Joe interjected. "Oh great... You too!? Look at him! You really think this scrawny- brat could take on the three of us?"
Ralph then cracked his knuckles. "We just need to teach him a little lesson about butting into other people's business." Ralph told them with a malicious grin. Ralph then approached Lou. "Look kid, We'll give one last chance to run. If not, then you'll suffer the consequences."
Lou sighed. "I figured you bone-heads wouldn't listen to reason..."
That statement made Ralph really mad. "Who you calling a bone-head? Ya punk!" He yelled as he threw a fist towards Lou's face.

Crystal had finally finished putting all the birthday cards from her friends in her backpack. And once she had it zipped up and put it on her back. She rushed outside with the other children who were eager to go home.
Her hazel eyes looked all around, searching for Lou. She found him leaning against a tree. His eyes closed and his arms crossed, a bored expression on his face. "Lou!" She joyfully exclaimed as she ran over to him.
Lou cracked one eye open and softly smiled as he watched her approach. "Oh. There you are. How was school?" "It was great! Everyone sang Happy Birthday to me and I got lots of cards!" "That's cool. Hey, instead of heading straight home. Why don't we get some ice cream?" Lou asked her.
"Can we really!?" Crystal asked, eyes sparkling in excitement. "Of course. It's your birthday." "Yay!" Crystal exclaimed, raising her arms in the air.
The two then held hands and went on their way.
Meanwhile, behind the building in the school's dumpster. Three very bruised and battered men were moaning and groaning in pain.
"Darn it! Who knew that punk would've turned out to be so strong!?" Ralph huffed out as pulled a rotten banana peel off his head. "I told ya were there was something fishy 'bout him." Joe wheezed as he held his bruised ribs. "One thing's for sure, the Boss ain't gonna like this." Carl spoke while trying stand up. Only to flop back down face first into the garbage.
(A/N: And there you have it. A message to all goons out there, don't mess with Crystal or else face Lou's wrath! Anyway this was a whole lot of fun for me to write and I hope you enjoyed it! Until next time, Bye for Now!)
