I whirled around, my ponytail swinging, and had my sword on the stranger's neck in less than two seconds. And then I realized that it wasn't a stranger.

It was Kaley.

She stood there with shock written all over her face, staring at me. Soon, the shock was replaced by betrayal.

I dropped my swords to the stone floor and stepped towards her, feeling pain in my chest when she stepped back.

"Please, Kaley! Let me explain!"

With surprising ferocity, she shouted at me, her blue eyes determined and steely, "NO! No more lies, Alana. No more. Tell me everything, or I will walk away and I'll never look back."

"Please! I was going to tell you! I just-"

"Just what? What were you going to tell me Alana? Is that even who you are?"

I sighed and held my hands up in surrender, "No more lies. I'll tell you everything."

She nodded, her eyes still narrowed in mistrust. It almost broke my heart to see one of my dearest friends so... distrustful of me. But I didn't blame her, I'd been lying to her for weeks... sort of.

I sighed, "I haven't exactly been all that... forthcoming with you. But I haven't lied to you. Everything I've ever told you about myself is true. My name is Alana Faye, I was born in Hawaii and my grandmother was a witch. You might've noticed that although I mentioned my mom, I never really talk about her."

Kaley nodded, looking slightly critical, "I did wonder about that."

I shrugged, "Sorry. I'm sure you assumed my mother wasn't a witch, since I told you that I was muggleborn. She isn't a witch but she is something else, something not human."

"Then what is she?"

"Are you sure you want to know? You're going to think I'm crazy..."

She nodded firmly, "No more lies."

I took a deep breath, "My mother is a demigod, daughter of a Greek god. And... so am I."

For a moment, I thought she might pass out, having wobbled a bit on unsteady feet. But all she did was say, "I'd say that you're insane... but weird things happen around you, weirder than the rest of the wizarding world."

I let loose a breath, relieved that we'd even gotten this far.

"I'm honestly surprised you believe me. I barely believed it when I was told. Anyway, my Mom's dad is Apollo, god of music, poetry, healing, all that stuff. I only inherited a few gifts from him, every once in a while he says hi."

Her eyes widened in realization, "The lights and the sparks! The first day at Hogwarts in the boats! That was him!"

I smiled softly, "That was the first time that he made contact with me. When the sparks fell, they landed at my feet and spelled out 'Hello Granddaughter', he's more thoughtful than most gods. Someday I want to really meet him... I've never really had a Grandfather before."

I paused to take a drink of water from the bottle I'd put on the floor a few feet away.

"This last school year, on the last day, I got attacked by the school bully. It wasn't anything new, he found me nearly three times a week. But to my surprise, a girl showed up to help me. She looked like she'd been through the world's biggest blender, her clothes were torn and her hair and face were filthy... but she didn't hesitate for a second to help me. She told me what I am, so I owe her a lot. Her name's Maya, and she's the daughter of the most famous demigods in history. She also happens to be one of my closest friends. After we convinced my mother to let me leave, she took me to camp Half-blood, where demigods learn how to survive."
